i was watching classic rinside:top ten hw's and muhammad ali part one. i thought when he said that ali is the number two hw and joe louis is the number one hw, that he didn't know what he was talking about. but i have come to the conclusion that bert sugar is just plain ******ed! besides robbing ali of the number one spot, he said that jack dempsey left hook was more powerful than joe frazier's lol! frazier would rip dempsey's head off in four rounds or less! he also said that the biggest upset in boxing history was louis-schmeling I lol! everyone knows that every human being on earth thought tyson would kill buster douglass in 10 sec. but douglass shocked mike tyson and the world! the only reason that the odds were 42:1 was because they had to get someone to vote for douglass for it to be legit, or else no one would have voted for douglass. he also had ezzard charles and gene tunney on the top ten list. so bert sugar has mental problems.
bert sugar is ******ed!

You're being a dumbass butterfly. A lot of experts and boxing fans rate Joe Louis over Muhammed Ali. I do as well. Joe Louis was the best HW ever to step into the ring and most people who deny this have never seen him and have absolutely no clue about boxing history. I'm saying most people, not all of them.
Now Jack Dempsey had one hell of a left hook and you have to take into the conclusion that he weighted in a lot lighter than Joe Frazier. So p4p it might very well be accurate to say that Demspey possesed a harder left hook than Frazier. Though these comparisons are purley fictional and can never be prooven anyway.
The Schmeling-Louis I bout can easily be looked upon as the biggest upset in HW history. Joe Louis as Tyson was thought to be indestructable. Just that he fought a lot more meaningfull competition than Tyson. He had knocked out Max Bear, Primo Carnera and lots of other respected fighters in less than a year and came of a first round KO victory over Charley Retzlaff.
Louis was sth. like 10/1 favourite and most bets were about when he would knock out Schmeling. Sadly this bout was abused by politics as well. Schmeling being presented as the **** and Louis as the black american. It was a culture shock that Schmeling knocked out Louis (and in some fashion). Louis went down from a barrage of hard right hands in the 4th and 12th round. If back than there would've been the same media coverage that was established in Tysons era we wouldn't even discuss this. The first and second Schmeling-Louis bouts had a worldwide meaning wereas Tyson-Douglas was mostly important for Americans.
Schmeling-Louis II being the fight of the century has a lot to do with the outcome and shock of the first bout.Comment

The discussion about whose left hook was harder is senseless anyway. Both had a left hook to die for and that's about it.
Schmeling was knocked out by Max Bear who was beaten in 4 by Louis. He came of a 12 round decision over Uzcudun, with whome he fought to a draw three bouts before that. People thought that he was finished. That he would be just another fighter on the rapidly fast growing record of Louis.
Douglas wasn't taken serious because Tyson very rarely fought serious comeptition.Comment

I think Bert Sugar would tend to lean towards the idea that you're the moron, not him. I would tend to agree with him on that notion.Comment

Bert Sugar said Hopkins got screwed in the first fight with Taylor, that Vitali Klitschko was the legitimate heavyweight champion of the world, and that Taylor is not a top 10 p4p fighter. We already knew he was an idiot.Comment

As for the rest, it's all conjecture. Dempsey-Frazier would be a helluva fight. Dempsey's chin was too good for his head to get torn off. Look it up, he got stunned once in the first round and that's the only stoppage on his record.Comment
