If there's no certainty that he'll get Mayweather/Cotto/Canelo, then there's no point in traveling down. He's found a niche for himself at 160 and shouldn't mess with that. He's now the guy being chased, and as such, he has some control over the situation.

But Mayweather and Cotto and Alvarez are the reasons he isn't fighting guys who bring no money like Golovkin, or Pirog before that. Why can Martinez have it both ways, but almost no one else can?

Martinez is proving to be every bit as bad as every other fighter in these divisions, talking and talking and talking about wanting Floyd or Alvarez or Cotto or Pacquiao but never taking the steps to force them into these fights. He takes the path of least resistance, just like the rest, yet he doesn't get called out for it like everyone else.

If Martinez wasn't coming back from an injury, then I would probably be complaining, but it's not like Murray is completely unknown to us like Barker/Dzinziruk were. Murray has the rankings on his side. He might not be the most dangerous opponent available, but the match-up makes some sense. Martinez fighting Murray will hopefully force Chavez/Macklin and Golovkin/Geale to happen, therefore clearing up the MW title picture. Everyone is going to adjust to Sergio, just like everyone is forced to adjust to Floyd. Unlike Mayweather, at least Martinez tries to fight on a consistent basis. Sergio is now in a similar position of power and he'll take advantage of it at the expense of Golovkin/Geale/Quillin. It seems like fans want him (the lineal champion) to fight Golovkin when he comes back, then Geale in September and then Quillin next January. Since when did Martinez become a superhero? lol. It seems like fans want him to do all the heavy lifting.

I feel ya, but Im not gonna sit back and argue with you about it. obviously you see martinez in a negative light, nothings gonna change that, and thats fine. a martin murray fight does not sound that awful to me, there have been champs that have chosen alot worse. we'll see sergios next fight after this before I start to make judgements against him. not everyone can fight everyone every other month
