If he keeps the strategy of just wildly bull rushing in and arm punching air like he did tonight he will have a difficult time with Donaire. This fight disgusted me. The fight was close based on the fact that they landed basically the EXACT same number of punches, with Morenos being far showier shots. You don't get scored for hundreds of arm punches hitting air and bull dozing a fighter with your head. Well, you didn't before now. I'm not saying Mares didn't win, just that if you take away the total bull**** point deduction the fight should have been at a minimum close on the cards. I picked Moreno, but also like Mares. The fact that two of the scores had it so wide is pathetic. You cannot watch that fight and know half of what you are talking about and then give Moreno basically no rounds. Punch output shouldn't trick seasoned judges when the ACTUAL PUNCHES CONNECTED by the two fighters is equal. Im disgusted with the whole thing.

This fight is not happening anytime soon, I'm afraid! It seems to me like Arum is already lining up Donaire to fight Rigindeaux, shoud both win their upcoming fights.

Fight definitely needs to happen next. This is a fight I can see Golden Boy and Top Rank making because both guys think their guy can win. If they can agree to a neutral venue, and purse split, this fight gets made sooner, rather than later.

I'm taking Mares in this fight because I believe he has both the style, and the skills to apply effective aggression on Donaire for majority of each round. He's really not much slower than Donaire, if at all. He doesn't hit as hard, but the fact that he punches in combinations, and throws them with precision, will be what takes it for him.

He's got great foot speed, and head movement to weave his way inside. He'll be able to stay in Donaire's chest on the inside, and take away Donaire's strengths.


I got Mares 8-4 type fight where maybe they each hit the deck once.

Mares seems very slow fighter who gets tired very fast but he can make and ugly fight..I think this will be easy fight for donaire or for rigo..they both will ko mares easily..

I hope GBP and TR make this fight for the fans. I would even pay PPV money for this fight. Mares doesn't want to fight Cruz just like Donaire doesn't want to fight Rigondeaux. So hopefully Mares and Donaire can push their promoters to make the fight. I think Rigondeaux is a tougher fight for Donaire just like Cruz is for Mares high risk low reward. Like I said I would pay PPV money for this fight if they do make Mares vs Donaire. Why not put Rigondeaux vs Cruz on the undercard and make those guys earn a fight with the winner of Mares vs Donaire.

mares is about 5'4 with a 66 inch reach while donaire is 5'6 1/2 with a 68 inch reach.

Mares and rigo are too small to beat donaire when you factor in donaire's other advantages in speed, power, athleticism, and slickness.

Not even Donaire could do much if the ref lets Mares ram his head inside, throw blows at will, and punch guys in the back without any reprimands.
