    Straightening Out Juyjuy

FROM JUY JUY'S TRUSTED SITE: "(Chris Eubank) 1984 N.Y.C. Golden Gloves, 2nd place in Light Welterweight class losing to Aaron Davis"

I told you before and I am telling you again that whatever site you are getting your amateur info from is way off... OK ? I told you Iran Barkley didn't go to the worlds in 82 and I am telling you that Eubank didn't have the amateur career here in the states they say he did... your info tells you he got a silver medal at the 1984 NYC GG at 139,losing to Aaron Davis in the finals. Well, I am here to tell YOU that it is a FACT that the 1984 139 pound NYC GG title at 139 pounds was won by John Wesley Meekins (NYC REC)and he beat David Colon of Suffolk City PAL in the finals to win it. Aiight, Killa? LOL. (What do you guys call that again? OWNED????)

And yes, Iran Barkley Did compete at 1982 World's (and win Bronze).

Until you can prove to me that Barkley didn't win Bronze at 1982 World Championships and Eubank didn't amazingly come third at 1984 US National Golden Gloves (with only 15 previous fights and about 12 months training in his life, and probably not even a trainer in his corner), as has been printed everywhere, then go **** yourself Mr Scully.

A look through the internet does seem to support JuyJuy's assertion that Iran Barkley won bronze in the 1982 world championships at middleweight.

I myself have sparred guys like Ryan Rhodes (youngest British champion since the war), Dean Francis (European champ), Glenn Catley (world champ), Neville Brown, etc.

Eubank was born in Dulwich in south London. He spent his early years in Jamaica from the age of two months to the age of six years before living around east London for around 10 years. After a troubled childhood which included a spell living on the streets, he re-located to New York in 1982 to finish his schooling and take up boxing. A self-proclaimed "self-styled pugilist", he won both the 1984 and 1985 New York Golden Gloves amateur boxing tournaments at Madison Square Garden, in 1984 he won the tournament in the 139 lb (63 kg) weight division and in 1985 he won the tournament in the 156 lb (71 kg) weight division. He also won the 1984 Spanish Golden Gloves. In 1986 and 1987 he competed in a total of 17 exhibition boxing bouts, all of which he won and all of which took place in either Brooklyn or Bronx.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Eubank

i get all diffrent info on them ......Christopher Livinstone Eubanks (born in 1966) made rapid progress as a young amateur boxer, after less than 18 months of hard work perfecting his craft he reached the semi-finals of the US Golden Gloves in 1983, losing out to Mark Breland in the 147 division. A year later, he lost to Frank Tate in the quarter-finals of the 156 division, but it was there that he formed a friendship with future legend Evander Holyfield. Eubanks went on to achieve the laurel of winning the 1984 New York Spanish Gloves tournament at 156 with victories over Kevin Bryant and Timothy Littles. At this point, Eubanks was personal friends with future legends in Pernell Whitaker and a certain Michael Gerald Tyson having met them at the Jerome Boxing Club in South Bronx in the early eighties. He turned down a number of offers to turn professional in 1984, but having clocked up a huge telephone bill that his mother couldn't afford, he did turn professional a year later on his own terms in October 1985 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
