Exactly, I do remember the commentators making that statement, you know what I'm talking about.Comment

Historically speaking isnt a puerto rican trainer usually a family member or a close family relative of the fighter?
It seemed to be the case with Tito, Cotto, Benitez.
I agree with throwing these guys to the wolves early. A lot of the champs in Puerto Rico's history became champs at an early age.
Benitez at 17
Gomez at 20
Tito at 20
Camacho at 21
Rosario at 20
Escalera at 23
Serrano at 23
Laporte at 22
Sanchez at 20
De Leon at 21
There probably a few more. Reality is puerto ricans have historically been thrown to the wolves early, the difference is that back then we came out on top, and today we are getting sent back to the drawing board. Is this because boxing today is harder than back then? Or are we just lacking the talent we had?
One thing is for sure. This month a puerto rican got thrown to the wolves and came out on top, and that is Bomba Gonzalez who after fighting guys with losing records (he once took a fight two weeks after his last), he fought a mexican with a great chin and dominated him. Despite having great punching power he boxed his ass off to win. Thats what we need, guys that dont fall in love with their strenghts and focus on limiting their weaknesses.
Mantequilla is a lazy bastard, I didn't see his fight with Dunzy, but I thought he was gonna lose and was surpised with the draw. He's ok IMO, his chins is really good, but is lazy and unprofessional.Comment

You may do a better job than most trainers down there and you already know the island, I'm pretty sure your daughter would love to spend some time with her relatives in Mayaguez.Comment

Real smart guy, sounds like another Chad Dawson. "I'll fight better if I starve myself" mentalityComment

140 seems suitable to drop to with better chances of winning some fights. At 22 he has allot left.He operates behind the jab well but just could not adjust to those rights hands and as technically sound of a good trainer Bonilla is I would of thought those problems would of been fixed.Comment

Dulorme bad gameplan no defense fought to cautiously worrying about Abregu's right hand he should have fought more aggressively coming forward throwing power punches instead of staying on the outside throwing that weak jab that Abregu kept countering over the top with right hands moving down to 140 might help but its plenty of good fighters waiting for himComment

I really like PR too, people are great, women are some of the sexiest in the whole world and I'm sure there's ton of talent down there. If I go down there, in 3 years you will see tough, granit chined, come forward Puerto Rican fighters coming out of there...hahahahaComment

at some point you've got to let the kid take one on the chin and see what he's got. he certainly didn't appear to be overmatched going in to the fight.
i think we found out what he's got, and we know that it's not going to be enough.
not only did he not take the punches well, he didn't behave like a fighter.Comment

He was beating Abregu in the early rounds, out boxing him and showing himself to be in another class. It ****** to see him get clipped like that, I was rooting for the kid.Comment
