I think he is a great fighter, one of the best of this era. Just because you lose to two ATG's does not mean you aren't great yourself. I think today's fighters are underrated as a whole. Pacquiao and Mayweather have raised the bar very high, and they have made some very good/great fighters look average.

He is a 3 weight world champ with lots of very good champions on his resume, he will more likely than not be in the hall of fame. I think that will be the decider to be honest.

He should take the Martinez fight, win that and he is both great and a sure HOF

Cotto beat a prime SSM which is better than anything Floyd has beat! Who did Floyd beat that is better than anything Cotto did btw? And has floyd beat anyone Cotto wouldnt?
Aside from Floyd having added both guys you're talking about to his resume, Cotto and Mosley, he has Castillo, Corrales, Marquez, De La Hoya, Hatton, Ortiz. What makes the 2007 Mosley so much better than the 2007 version of De La Hoya? DLH was WBC champ and ranked #3 at JMW and had come off a good knock out win over Mayorga. Mosley had just come off decisioning Collazo.

Please stop calling 2007 Mosley prime, he was actually underdog to lose and people were saying he was old and was going to lose, then he ended up doing just as good as Cotto in every category including landed power punches and identical percentages in a close fight. Prime Shane was fighting DLH, Forrest, Winky, Vargas. 2007-2010 Shane Mosley was peak-past prime, not prime.

          I agree 100% with this.

Someone mentioned Margarito , and hand wraps or not Margarito's style (pressure/volume) was all wrong for Cotto. Experience in the fighter and corner could have changed the outcome of that fight I believe. The way Cotto fought in the second fight by pushing and clinching and not wasting energy trying to "completely outbox" Margarito would have worked in the first on IMO. That was the first fight in which we all saw Cotto's bigest flaw , which I think is his stamina.

But I love how Cotto can mix it up in so many ways. He got wins over good fighters , but never really dominated anyone great. He still has a change as he is still fighting , but he has fought almost everybody that he has a chance of. Anyone of significance that is. Only fighter which he can still fight and get a quality win is Sergio , but that fight possibly wont end well for him.

It's usually the Cottards and the Flomos that pick yes just to hype him up into something he's not.

Cotto is not a great fighter and not even close. A great fighter is Trinidad and Cotto doesn't even come close to him. Cotto is like a PR Gatti with more skills.

Cotto is a great fighter,,, he has less losses than Juan Manuel Marquez but yet people consider Marquez great, They both fought Floyd but Marquez got totally outclassed and cotto was in a draw with Floyd till about the 10 round IMO. If ppl consider tommy hearns great, Roberto Duran great then cotto is great also. Tommy hearns and Duran lost fights to the best fighters of there erA and r still considered greats, I think cotto is the most under rated fighter of our time . Ppl say he lost to clottey but that's bull, he fought clottey with one eye from the 3 round and clottey couldn't beat him, he beat Mosley by 2 rounds in my opinion, ppl picked yuri Forman to out box him and he killed Forman, he beat the crap out of Carlos Quintana who was undefeated and beat the hell out of Paul Williams, he beat Pauline mallinagi who was undeafeated, he beat the same zab who gave Floyd problems, His only real loss was to Floyd, the PAC loss was crap because manny made him come down in weight and cotto had no real team in his corner,, Margo cheated and everyone knows it,, I think if cotto fights Martinez hell win

I have seen all of Cotto's tittle fights and I never thought he looked like a great fighter. I have seen him look like a very good fighter, but he never looked like a great fighter to me.

No, he was a good fighter with solid power but he was never great. A Great fighter would've have gotten through Margarito regardless if you think he used loaded gloves or not. A great fighter would have also given Pacquiao a much tougher fight.

IMHO I'd say he's a great fighter, he has solid power and underrated boxing skills. Problem is, as i've said several times, he just takes too many punches and down the stretch they take their toll. He tries his hardest to break his opponent down, but if you got durability and endurance, Cotto will most likely break before you do.

What I've always said about Cotto is that, in great condition, he's a force to be reckoned with, & i think his current trainer has done a great job of getting him in peak condition.
