    it wasnt an amazing perfomrance
it was entertaining as hell and shortened both of their careers by years no doubt
    but that wasnt skillful
it was heart guts and glory
to me it was super entertaining and I would def pay to watch it again
but there was no skill there
that wasnt boxing it was backyard brawling
anyone of the two step up to a legit boxer and they get their asses handed to them plain and simple
you talk all this sh it about ortiz quiting saying its a fact well dont get but hurt when a writer calls out the BS he saw
its a fact both are entertaing brawlers that would get exposed for just that by a pure boxer with feather fist
    NOTE: Rios already got exposed

That is about how I see it, Rios is a pretty good fighter because his toughness and strength allow him to wear down guys but those attributes can easily be taken away or turned meaningless.

I saw the Abril fight, Rios looked lost because Abril didn't allow Rios to fight to his strengths. Abril is a pretty good fighter but there are guys way better than him out there that can execute similar plans against Rios.

Against the right guys Rios certainly is fun to watch, and he will almost never get matched against boxers that can exploit his flaws because Top Rank knows the deal and can milk Rios in fights that are much more appealing to the eye.

Everyone knows it. That's why they are skipping the BS and *****g him in with the winner of Pacquiao- Marquez. Hating is a waste of time. Go be a purist boxing snob elsewhere. You can watch Abril's Olympic fencing boxing style all you want in the dark in your moms basement. Stop lecturing people and looking down at those of us who also like to be entertained. There's no money or interest in the sport without rios and guys like him. You'd be out of a job and not writing about boxing cause no one would watch and no one would care.

If rios fights pac, I dont think we will see rios for a very long time after pac mutilates him. imo...

rios lacks skill and defense, finesse, generalship, everything it takes to be considered an elite level fighter. he is C level, C+ on his best day, and that still even depends on his opponent...
and you called for Alvarado to outclass him as well. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, eh hater?

I think a lot of the dislike Rios gets and still gets is that the fact is the last two fights of his he came in overweight and wasn't man enough to say "Okay its my fault" I think (But I could be wrong) the first time he tried blaming the scales and the second time he claims he was misinformed about when he could re-weight and hydrated slightly.

Additionally I don't think you can compare Rios to Gatti. Sure their tough with big hearts and iron chins, but so are a lot of other fighters, and that's where the similarities end. Both fighters show iron chins, but that's where the allure of Rios ends, but the allure for Gatti keeps going. Gatti has been downed before. He could have stayed down but he got up. When he got up he could have held but he fought. Gatti could have quit but he didn't. The difference between Rios and Gatti is that Rios entertains the crowd, Gatti inspires the crowd.

I'm still not seeing an intelligent defense of Rios as a highly skilled fighter. It's all emotional or uneducated (in terms of boxing). It's OK to like the guy but don't fool yourself into thinking that he's a brilliant in-fighter. He was clowned by Abril and he will not be able to hang with decent boxers. Accept it and enjoy him for the same reason you would enjoy a Maidana fight: to see brains get scrambled.

This is the age where Floyd Mayweather is king; meaning anyone who can't execute perfect pull-counters or doesn't use the shoulder rolls is a no-skilled bum. I mean, let's not forget this is the forum where Pac is dismissed as having no skill or talent every day.

I understand the point the article is making but it's just so unnecessary. We know Rios isn't the second coming of Pernell Whitaker. But one of the great aspects of boxing is the different styles.

Rios, to me, also symbolises one of the fundamental aspects of the sport - the idea that will and mental fortitude is as important as pure talent.

Boxing is not a sport that trades solely on technical excellence - it's about so much more than that.

He is a good pressure fighter. He can cut off a ring, he works the body well, inside his head movement and defense is underrated. He knows he does not have the talent or skill to fight outside, he knows his chin is his best asset, and he has developed his style around what he does well, which is get inside and wear his opponents down.

To say he has no skill at all is wrong, and unfair. He's not only hung in with decent boxers, he's knocked them out. It's not just "oh, don't let him inside and he's useless." Not many fighters can do that, especially not without taking punishment at the same time.
