It's too soon for Rios to challenge Marquez and Pacquiao. Especially I think with Pacquiao because I don't trust Robert Garcia with putting Rios in that fight. Margarito could've been prevented from getting his eye socket permanently damaged in his fight against Pacquiao but Garcia didn't protect his fighter. And Rios took many head snapping punches from Alvarado that I think he deserves a break. Don't go up too high in skill level for an opponent just yet. Let him fight at 140lbs one more time then think about Marquez and Pacquiao. Then he should test the waters at 147lbs and if he passes then by all means make the fight.

Everyone knows it. That's why they are skipping the BS and *****g him in with the winner of Pacquiao- Marquez. Hating is a waste of time. Go be a purist boxing snob elsewhere. You can watch Abril's Olympic fencing boxing style all you want in the dark in your moms basement. Stop lecturing people and looking down at those of us who also like to be entertained. There's no money or interest in the sport without rios and guys like him. You'd be out of a job and not writing about boxing cause no one would watch and no one would care.

what a hack. this is the type of writer thats always crying how boxing is dead blah blah blah. Rios has an amateur career, his skills are severely underrated, yes his head did get snapped back but watch the fight again, he catches plenty of shots on gloves forearms and elbows, that takes skills. look at this hack's recent articles, all negative in some way, instead of promoting the sport through an amazing fight he finds a perceived negative in the fight of the year, GTFOH

This kind of thing is what separates the folks who understand the science of boxing from those who don't. I like watching Rios, but make no mistake, from a technical perspective he's absolute slop. You can be exciting and have good technique (Mike Tyson, Tommy Hearns, etc ).

He really doesn't deserve a big ppv payday yet but he will get it anyway because fans will rally behind him the same way they do with Chavez jr. even though he's a limited fighter.
I agree with you, any fighter who won't get suckered into fighting him in the inside will definitely give him trouble as did Abril. Don't get me wrong Rios is an exciting fighter to watch but he has no defense, he's willing to receive 2 or 3 punches to be able to give 1. Marquez would definitely beat him easily by just simply counter punching him...I'd like to see him with Danny Garcia, he'll knock him out easily and then go from there....but yes Rios is a limited fighter.

fair enough, if you can hold Brandon Rios' arms so he cant punch as Abril was allowed to do you have a shot at beating him

tell us something we dont know, if you watch rios for some slick boxing then your a idiot. if you watch rios becuase he one of the the most exciting fighter in boxing right now then you watching the right guy.

articles like this make me laugh, are their actual boxing fans who think rios is a boxer or claim that he is? if so email that article to the 3 idiots who think that.

Rios is a serious inside fighter like RJJ said, he defense is under rated, his inside skills are under rated, and that it.

Read some of these Rios threads and you might comprehend why an article like this is relevant.

There was absolutely nothing in this article that isn't obvious. And writing an article to discredit a guy who sacrifices his body for the sake of putting on a good show, is bad for the sport when there's nothing to critique other than him using a style that isn't you're interpretation of "good boxing".

                    Rios. Isn't. Mayweather.

We get it, but his style is effective and fun to watch.

People keep mentioning Rios-Abril like Abril put on a clinic but if you would watch the fight without the commentary, you would see why Rios was given the rounds he got. Abril went intervals as long as two minutes without throwing a single punch and the commentators made it sound like he was peppering Rios.
