Rios is tough but not bullet proof. A bum put him down twice in the first round early in his career and others have rocked him too. He never fought a guy that hits as hard as Cotto. Maybe later I'll change my mind if Rios shows me more. For now I think the young 140 pound champion Cotto was to fast, to skillful, and hit to hard for a fighter who blocks punches with his face. Cotto by KO. I know Rios hits hard and sets a fast pace so he could win by KO himself. I have to go with the more proven fighter with the better skills.
fair enough. though i disagree with some of your points.

Once again, the better boxer would win...Cotto would have beat his ass at 140 as well, Cotto just got older and that weight became a liability, but if we talking when Cotto was more comfortable at that weight with his skill set, he beats his ass. People act like Rios didn't sustain any damage, imagine if a better athlete with world class skills and precision were landing on him, while making every punch he lands cost him.

Cotto's a savvy fighter. his ring IQ alone would defeat Rios.

At 140...it would be War... considering both are still in prime. Yes

Most definitely, seeing brandon handle 140 like he did, knowing Cotto was still fresh, it easily likely would be FOTY.

actually Cotto has learned to fight pretty well going backwards, watch the second margarito fight. but when cotto was undefeated and confident he was an attacking pressure fighter. but then the first margarito fight happened and cotto was never the same fighter. he is still good now, better at certain things (like boxing going backwards), but not even close to as beast as like when he fought Mosley.

I thinlk its 6yrs since junito el angel fought at 140lbs,that fighter would obliterate rios.Cotto beat former world champ randall bailey, stopped chop chop corley in 5! and UD malignaggi at 140lbs any 3 of those guys would beat rios.i think Cotto at that time is to strong to fast to accurate for rios can you not imagine the onslaught of left hooks to the body and head from cotto as rios stands square with his hands up,cotto would box rios head off his jab and combinations at that time would be way to much for rios.

Cotto was walking through Randell Bailey's best shots at 140... Nobody has attack Rios to the body yet, and I would only bet that he would crumble under a proper body attack

Mexican's have this nice trick where they don't move their heads, which makes it a more inviting target as head shots are more satisfying to the audience... But truthfully, a body attack is key cause Mexican's have a reputation for weight fluctuation between fights

Point being, prime Cotto liver shots, as well as his superior athleticism and boxing skill win him this fight

Cotto takes a knee. Would look like the acosta fight, where rios getting outboxed but once cotto slows a tab rios will break him down. Thing is with rios he doesnt slow down, round 1 is like round 12 to him and vice versa and although he tired that doesnt stop him from throwing 100+ power shots in a round where as his oppenents start to slow cause the pressure that rios apply they cant hold off for 12 straight rounds.
