I just wish Geale would man up and accept his ass whooping from Gennady like a man.

in what world would he beat Martinez? I hope they do fight, then Martinez would have 3 and the ring belt.

Tournaments need to be in multiples of 4. Super Six was interesting, and it allowed even fighters who lost to continue fighting. The most attractive thing about it was that the top fighters were involved (sans Bute at the time).

However it got a little confusing and ended up feeling more like a way to have everyone fight each other.

A classic 8 man tourney eliminates fighters who lose and keeps it moving.

            No way Chavez takes part.

I'd be surprised if Martinez was willing to involve himself in a tournament either as he seems set on the Chavez rematch or a big money fight at 154 vs Cotto/Floyd/Canelo. Maybe if all of them were unavailable he'd fight Geale or whoever but I can't see him wanting to be tied down to a tournament.

Maybe you can throw in Quillin after he beats N'Jikam, but I don't he'd take the risk.

With that in mind I don't think the rest of the division is deep enough to have 8 guys involved.

Plus the more fighters you involve, the more chance someone gets injured and has to be replaced, reducing the quality even further. I remember a few years ago they tried to do an 8-man tournament at lightweight and from what I recall 2 of the fights got postponed and then cancelled and the whole thing was never mentioned again.

If the God of War is in this tourney there won't be a tourney. They will avoid it at all costs. None of the other MW's want it with him.

Hope this little mini-tourn gets made. Would love to see every possible matchup with the 4 mentioned. DO IT.

I like the idea of a 4-man tourney. It's simple and efficient, only requiring four fighters and three fights. We need something quick, not something that's going to take a couple of years, like the super-6 tournament. And I agree with the comment above that the division isn't deep enough for an 8-man tournament. Four is perfect.

And if it's truly top contenders, like Golovkin, Geale, Pirog, Macklin, Quillin-N'jikam, then the winner will be the legitimate #1 contender.
