i think floyd has been lucky in that he faced fighters who had huge followings e.g. hatton, DLH, marquez, corrales, cotto etc and these fighters bought huge crowds with them i think once those fans saw just how good the pretty boy was they adopted him as their next favourite fighter.

also floyd is a promoters dream - the gangsta persona, the blow up with his father in the build up to ortiz, annoying hattons fans by wearing a UTD shirt etc.
    Absolutely.

His turn on Dancing With The Stars further pushed him into that 'celebrity' world and made his name more known to non-boxing fans. Since the Oscar fight, he's been the fighter that's taken that spot.

It's a pretty full-proof recipe for success; most skilled fighter in the world, very smart in terms of promoting a fight, attracts the hardcore and casual fans...

Well he's American, he beat Oscar, he gets regular 24/7 promotion, he has the '0' to market, a pfp claim and he talks a lot of ish so has many who want to see him beaten.

It all adds up to high PPV.

If that were really true then Andre Ward would be smashing PPV records. Skill is maybe a factor for hardcore fans of the sport but it's mostly about promotion in terms of the masses.

Combination of being undefeated, being a Villain meaning a lot of people want to see him lose and being a great fighter who's been in the spot light for a long time.

Because he is the biggest deuche in the whole of boxing and everyone except some ****** kids that look up to criminals, would love nothing more then to see Floyd get knocked out.

And GTFO with that `he is the best fighter` he whent life and death with a waaaay past prime Cotto, and there are a dozen of fighters right now around his weightclass that would blow him out of the ring.

He is also soo overly deluded that he becomes interresting just for the sher crazyness of it , kinda like SR in american chopper

no fighter at 147 is able to decisively beat either floyd or pacman. they are simply too far ahead of the rest.

i agree that at 154 sergio might well be able to beat both but remember that pacman and floyd are WW's not LMW's.

in fact i would argue both are (or rather where in their primes) actually 140lb fighters but its their talent and IQ that has allowed them to fight in the division above their natural weight division.

these clowns try to claim that Floyd's PPV numbers(a positive) result from him being hated or his cusomers being ******(a negative)...perfect example of a classic hate move...***ing haters

roy jones was highly skilled, and the planet's best fighter for many years. he was never a crossover superstar.

floyd mayweather jr is an excellent salesmen. it's what he does outside of the ring that sells. people honeslt'y don't give a damn about his boxing. it looks nice when they're in front of the TV, but they're buying the fights because of his personality and behavior outside of the ring.

why are his ppv numbers so high?
                  he's a main stream star.

when casuals watch boxing they want to see people hurt. that's the part of the sport that everybody understands. not everybod speaks slick boxing. everybody speaks knockout.

that's why pacquiao is such a star. he's a nice story (small asian guy beating the hell out of people, fights his way from the streets to congress) but his fights were also brutally exciting for a period of time, and always featured blood. people like to watch him fight more than mayweather, and that contributed a good deal to his PPV numbers .

He's the perfect villian--as New England mentioned, the perfect salesman. An arrogant Black American who acts out every single stereotype in the book and can back it up in the ring. Lots of people would pay to watch his come-uppance.

Another reason for his popularity is what I call the OJ effect. Like OJ, African-Americans aren't in love with his behavior (a good portion of them), but flock to him his defense because of the other side's rhetoric. Floyd, more than any fighter since perhaps Tyson, has been able to get the African-American community to come out of their pockets, no easy task.

Because people want to watch him fight.

                      Simple.
