The Oscar De La Hoya effect. Oscar created both Pacquaio and Mayweather in terms of PPV stars. Passing of the baton.
Now floyd just hype his fights in some WWF matter and Pacquaio just lets the boxing talk for itself.

Another reason for his popularity is what I call the OJ effect. Like OJ, African-Americans aren't in love with his behavior (a good portion of them), but flock to him his defense because of the other side's rhetoric. Floyd, more than any fighter since perhaps Tyson, has been able to get the African-American community to come out of their pockets, no easy task.
very interesting points. race plays a role here. i'm not saying it's racism necessarily that plays a role, but race certainly does.
i don't want to offend anybody, so i'm going to tread very lightly.
there seem to be a plethora of reasons why "black sells," the best of which have been outlined in this thread.
black vs white used to be a huge drawing point in boxing. holmes and cooney, as i'm sure you know, was worked from that angle almost exclusively, and it ended up being one of the biggest fights of all time.

that's certainly a part of it, but there have been so many great boxers, and so few bonafide cross over stars, especially in this era.
jones, whitaker, hopkins, none of them crossed over in into the mainstream the way mayweather jr was able to do.
in a lot of ways, the public chooses who they want to support. fighters have to have "it" to cross over into the mainstream. the public decides what "it" is.Last edited by New England; 09-29-2012, 12:56 PM.

And yes, I believe Floyd's fans are generally less educated (just my opinion) and don't know how to find a proper HD stream so they end up grabbing mommas credit card and buying it.
Of course you have actual fans that are going to buy no matter what, but these so called "haters" that are supposedly buying his PPV to watch him lose are too very ****** when they can watch on stream while not supporting him.Last edited by THE TALK OF TX; 09-29-2012, 02:52 PM.

people watch floyd i think to really see how great he really is for there self cause it seems whenever one has doubted him or wanted him to taste defeat he seem to pull through the storm people hate floyd because they love him so they dont mind paying to see him supporters know its going to be true boxing skill to watch and not just a street fight where anyone can win skill pay the bills you rookies need to pay attention and stop being so green
