How many people here thinks that Mayorga can beat De La Hoya?

At first I thought that Mayorga would have no chance against the golden boy and if DLH were in his prime, he wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell, but seeing how DLH hasn't fought since Sep. 2004 and hasn't look great for a long while, I reconsidered the prospect.

We all know that Mayorga has good power and that his wild brawling style has foiled good boxers like Vernon Forrest and gave the slick Cory Spinks all he could handle, will that be enough to beat a DLH that hasn't fought in well over a year and is not nearly as hngry as he once was?

I honestly don't know...but I'm not so sure that DLH would walk all over this guy, the way I thought he would. I still lean toward De La Hoya, becasue even on his worst night he is loads better in terms of skill than Ricardo.

Obvioulsy there are other factors that I have already mentioned other than just pure skill but I pose the question...

    Can Mayorga beat DLH?

    hmm

Mayorga does scare me honestly. I mean, the guy has one real clear loss and that's to Tito, which you can understand cuz Tito was a middleweight and Mayorga is a 147 lbs brawler.

VS DLH, it's a different fight. Mayorga makes boxers REALLY tired with his style. Forrest was falling all over the place in the rematch just due to Mayorga's sheer presence and bodily strength.

I think DLH will win, but I aven't seen Mayo since his Tito loss, so I don't know how he looked vs Piccirillo. I just know he won every round.

I saw the fight against Piccirillo and while he didn't win every round he looked fairly impressive, he got hit more than he would have liked but that was more of a case of Ricardo being lazy and taking rounds off, but he put Piccirillo down several times and just looked all around dominant.

Whatever happens I think DLH will know hes been in a fight with Mayorga.

Mayorga is too reckless, and DLH can take a punch, so I don't see Mayorga getting lucky, I see him getting countered over, and over, until he becomes completely discouraged, losing a one sided UD.

A Prime DLH I think will UD Mayorga any day of the week. However, when the fight rolls around he'll have been out of the ring for like 18 months or something like that. If DLH comes in in shape, and ready to go he'll score a relative easy UD. However, if he comes in sloppy I wouldn't be surprised if Mayorga got a late round KO.

Mayorga is gonna wait for about 9 rounds and then he is gonna knock De La Hoya out with his secret rib cage punch. apprently there is a weak spot in his ribs..

Thats pretty much my thoughts on the fight. I think in the weeks leading up to the fight, if I see that DLH is hungry, appears to be training hard, and looks like he really is taking this fight seriously and as you said gomez, shows up in-shape, he'll score an easy victory(well as easy as fighting a madman like Mayorga can be!). If he doesn't it could be a rough night.
