always been a big bad chad dawson fan. first time i saw him was the first pro fight ive been to live, undercard to jeff lacy-robin reid in tampa,fl. he won me over when i saw him outside interacting with fans before the fight. his son was with him and they had him wearing matching camo and boxing gloves like chad wore in the ring that night. too funny. john ive been competing amateur about 8 years based out of tampa,fl getting ready to turn pro soon, but obviously my knowledge of the sport is nothing compared to you. i just have to say what i remember most from chads first 3-4 fights i saw was the combination punching. he threw 7-10 punch combos and to the body with bad intentions, some of the best combination punching i have ever seen in BOXING HISTORY. the last few fights before you got back with him he seemed to turn into a potshot fighter not letting his hands go as much. i would like to see him get back to ripping the body with big combinations like i remember. sorry im done im just a big dawson lol i believe he still has a great future at 175 and up. that was not the bad chad that ive watched in there with ward, the weight was without a doubt a factor, coming from a kid who knows first hand. i wont say chad would have won for sure at 175, but i can say for damn sure it would not have been like the fight we saw.
Part of it is that I talked to his nutritionist and he was very sure that he could make the weight no problem...and also, like I say, the wheels were in motion already...once it was stated in the ring after the Hopkins fight there was no going back, u know what I mean?
Nutritionist want to make a buck anywhere they can so they`ll say anything to get the Job.

Please, for your own sake, stop talking. I'm not saying you don't know the sport from a fan perspective, but don't pretend you know the inner-workings.
Iceman: Got a few questions for you if you'd be so kind as to oblige:
1. Was Chad slower on the night than usual, or did Ward make adjustments?
- I don't know if it was just Ward being deceptively quick, but Chad didn't seem to have the fast-twich reflexes he usually has on the night, in other words he didn't seem to be able to get his punches off. Could have been a weight thing obviously.
2. When you told Chad he needed to step up his aggression and stop Ward, like he nearly did to Pascal, did you think he had it in the tank at that point?
- When I heard you say it, I thought you were giving good advice, but to me it didn't seem like Chad still had the confidence in his own game at that stage to step it up to the necessary level. Against Pascal he was facing a fighter who famously fades dramatically after the first four/five rounds, but Ward is an intensely different animal.
3. Any truth to the rumour Miranda knocked Chad down in sparring? If so, did it affect his confidence?
- I understand if 'what happens in sparring, stays in sparring', just interested to know. I believe Miranda's people made the claim.
No worries if you don't have the time, you've responded to enough people already. I like a Pascal rematch for Chad next, if Pascal can get by Cloud.
PS: I am clarifying ASAP if it was Jesus Gonzalez or John Rivas who was the last to beat Andre...
UPDATE: Apparently Virgil Hunter says Jesus Gonzalez was the last one to beat Andre Ward as an amateur....so Ill assume that Revish was the second to last ....sorry for the mistake...
with all due respect, my man, that decision was made regardless of what I may have thought about it...it was already put in motion before the Hopkins fight...Im not involved on the business end of things when it comes to the fighters, I stay out of it. They hire me to do a job and I do it...the people with the money control what happens in this business, my friend...
Damn, that's the realest schit I read in a while on here.

The dude made weight so the nutritionist did his job. Not sure if the nutritionist advised them that it would not be a healthy weight or not but that's a different story. Sounds like Chad and his people had their mind set on a Ward fight no matter what.

So it has been 12 years. Pretty good I suppose.
14 years actually...he never lost as an open class boxer apparently...
Props to John Scully for kicking it with the hardcore fans. Boxing needs more people like him; he's always on these boards posting things from years ago. Thanks for everything, Iceman.
