If Mayweather fights Canelo at 154 would it be for the Ring/Lineal Title?

Well here's the thing. Since Winky left the division and I believe he has retired. The weightclass lineal championship is vacant. So there has to be a lineal incumbent at some point. Like it or not Floyd if he beats Canelo would be best suited for the title

Also, I would have to question the logic by the Ring of having Floyd #1 in the division by having one fight and beating Cotto who only beat Yuri Foreman, washed up Mayorga/Margarito. The Ring lost a lot of credibility which is why a lot of the top guys left (Nigel Collins, etc.).
The Ring has had #1 vs. #3 for the championship belt for a long time. That's how Wlad won the HW title even though Vitali was #2.

There new rules are that #1 can fight #2-#5 and have it possibly be for the lineal title. But that hasn't happened yet.

Who's #2 if it isn't Cotto or Canelo? Lara? Who's best win should be Paul Williams who was fresh off getting sparked cold + a draw vs. Carlos Molina. Vanes Martirosyan? Who's best win is a washed up Ouma. Molina? Maybe if he ever got the benefit of a decision. But he hasn't. Literally ever.

Now if Lara beats Vanes, he'd a reason to ask for that spot, but still a W vs. Vanes, D vs. Molina, and robbery L vs. Williams. Is that something to write home about?

Floyd has two fights at the weight. WSD vs. De La Hoya and WUD vs. Cotto. Two whole fights and his JMW resume shits on every other single contender combined.

Not sure if this would rank equal to or lower than winning the lineal title against Baldomir.

The Ring title is the only thing that separates Pacquiao from a 6 division champion.

It was EXTREMELY rare for that to ever happen. The only way they would ever let that happen is if they knew there was no chance of the #1 fighting the #2, hence why Wlad won against the #3.

Any of those guys should be ahead of floyd since they fight in the division, imo.

Oscar was how many years ago? That doesn't count since it wasn't recent. If Pacquiao went back to 135 pounds tomorrow and beat some guy on the downside of his career, would that make him #1 at 135 because he fought there one time some years ago?

If the #1 beat the #2 wouldnt be be the lineal champ?

Lineal title is between the agreed best 2 fighters in a division. Its that simple. It doesnt matter if the current #1 already beat what is now the #2 fighter before hand. Thats a dumb RING rule which is why it doesnt always follow the lineage

This is why the Ring sucks now. They are as bad as any belt organization

At one point they had Cotto, canelo and vanes as 1,2,3

The ranking is what it is. Don't be so cynical. Who else should be Ranked 1,2 and 3?? Margacheato is beated and gone, we know the tragedy of PW. Floyd beat Cotto, so it wouldn't make sense to fight him again.
