Cotto vs. Martinez will not happen, due to Canelo will beat Cottos ass and make him take a KNEE! There's a better chance of Canelo vs. Martinez after Canelo handles Cotto!

Bernard, Do you believe Floyd makes the fight with Martinez, because I don't if history tells us anything. I agree with what you said though, it is THE fight to be made, but I reckon we won't see it unfortunately and an easier option will be selected.

          Let's put things in perspective....
-Against Pavlik, Martinez weighed 159.5, and rehydrated up to 167
-Against P.Will the 2nd time, he weighed 157.5 and rehydrated up to 168
-Against Dzinziruk, he weighed 158.8 and rehydrated up to 170
-Against Barker, he weighed 158 and rehydrated up to 165
-Against Macklin, he weighed 157.5 and didn't weigh unofficially
-Against Chavez, he weighed 159 and rehydrated to 167

So, the #'s say that he'd have a bit of trouble making the weight. Would it be as bad as Dawson? probably not. I think Sergio's level of determination would allow him to make the weight safely. Cotto would be his biggest fight by far and Sergio seems to do well under pressure. I think it's a match-up worth considering.

I'm pretty sure it was 167 against Macklin and he didn't have an unofficial weight with Chavez, neither did.

Sergio can fight at 157 I think, but he'd have to work big time to get lower than that again. It would be like Floyd in 2009 trying to get back down to 140, a weight he hadn't been at in 4 years. Sergio hasn't been at 154 in basically 4 years now by 2013.

IDK, I think Cotto-Canelo is risky for GBP, I think Canelo would loose that. Although with a rematch as you say that would make up for it. But Canelo is their new up and coming guy and cotto is on the way out and without a long term contract with them. I would still be surprised because of the risk of canelo loosing his 0 and ruining a floyd fight.

Martinez-Floyd is the better fight, but not from GBP's perspective.

I think Golden Boy wants Canelo to beat Cotto before fighting Floyd, and if that's so, thank god. He needs to beat Cotto first.

Yeah I agree he needs some kind of big win to make a floyd fight promotable. A win over cotto would do that. Though I think they would wait maybe until fall 2013 for cotto. Based on their last fights I think its still risky and they have to be thinking that too. If they had more confidence in canelo they wouldnt be giving him softball fights still.

Maybe they will give him angulo or ortiz but those guys have recent losses. They could still build it up though and they are low risk.

Wait, what? Reach a weight agreement? You said you could make 150, now you can't even make 154?

There's no reason for Cotto to fight Martinez at 154.

If he's going all or nothing then he should fight him at 157 with the possibility of winning the MW belt from Martínez, which would be a massive accomplishment for Cotto.
