Can't Sergio fight at Middleweight? I thought he won a title , right? Then take on the number one contender not an old beat up welter who hasn't won a fight in years! Cotto got handled by a guy who was a "Flyweight" for christ sake!! No offense to Cotto but the Cotto fan wagon needs to get a shot of reality!! He can't punch his reactions have slowed and he hasn't won a meaningfull fight in years!!!
As for this Middleweight Champ since when does a 160lb King go around challenging welters? This kid Ward is right there waiting, sign for 160+2lbs and ring the bell. Just because this guy Sergio held off some green kid for 11 rounds doesn't make him the "sliced bread" of boxing! Between him and Jr. they fought no one, when Sergio met the cheater he got bombed out of there and I think a fresh minded in shape Ghost would have given him a much better fight than he did! Now once one of these green guys beats the other he's a "great fighter"??? Really??
I'll tell you who'll he will fight next!!! Who ever brings the most money!!! Ray

Martinez can make more money in a Chavez rematch than a fight with Cotto. Chavez has more followers than Cotto. Now that Martinez won the fight, he can demand more cash. Martinez vs Cotto won't do as many buys as Chavez Jr vs Martinez. Especially the rematch.

I can see why he wouldnt want to give the kid another shot. He almost knocked his ass out in one round after clobbering the kid the whole fight. Im sure he'd prefer the less powerful but more mobile Cotto. But Cotto is much faster than Chavez and uses his jab. I think speed was the biggest factor in the Chavez matchup.

Cotto is a bigger draw than Chavez Jr but a Martinez/Chavez rematch would sell more because of the drama in the last round. Martinez just needs to be careful not to get screwed by Arum. Don't fight in Texas and make sure Chavez Jr takes the test.

Rematch a CW or fight a blown up WW? Not a hard decision to make.

I hate saying it, but Martinez would be too much for Cotto, especially at this stage of his career.

I can see Cotto fighting Trout and then Canelo, and then retiring, and I'd be content with that.
