Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Explains His Deep Dislike For Chavez Jr.

I see him as a very respectful fellow. Never denigrates anybody, unlike the usual boxing crew. Doesn't swagger around like the usual underbred guys trying for notoriety all the time. And I don't think that Chavez Jr. has anything like the sort of money the usual very popular 48 fight guy could have. His opponents haven't been big fight names, as he was "learning on the job", having had no amateur career. Why would Chavez take the sport seriously? Everything has been handed to him on a silver platter. he's made millions of dollars fighting nobodies. While Chavez was getting completely undeserved results against Carlos Molina, Martinez was getting draws against the likes of Kermit Cintron (who he not only knocked out, but decisively beat on points). Chavez fought in front of packed houses when he wasn't in the top hundred of his division. He's been one the most protected, coddled fighters in history. He doesn't appreciate how tough it is to make it big in this sport--his actions show rather that he takes it all for granted.
Don't get me wrong, it is not Chavez fault it has all been gifted to him. But he has not shown any humility and that disgusts most fight fans. This is a guy that has been given the middleweight championship of the world without having ever fought the top fighters in the division (and if you try to argue that Rubio, Lee or Zbik should be considered in that group, you are doing a great disservice to the deep middleweight division). He should be humble and try to prove he deserves the opportunity to get in the ring with Martinez. He should acknowledge that the strap he wears around his waist was improperly and disgustingly taken by the corrupt WBC and its fraud Jose Suleiman. Martinez has every right to be disgusted with Chavez and the travesty which resulted in Chavez wearing a belt that he doesn't deserve and rightfully belongs to Martinez.
He's been famous because of his father, but only a few fights ago, as I recall reading, his highest purse was $200,000. And you know as well as I do, that taxes and all the other expenses eat away over 50% of that.
In his 42nd fight his purse was $100,000, of which he lost 10% by a fine. You can't argue with facts.....or maybe you can?
By the way, Rubio, Lee and Zbik were all expected to beat him......Comment

The people trashing Chavez Jr. don't know anything about boxing.I don't think that Chavez junior has anything like the sort of money a wll known 46 fight guy should have. He was famous because of his name, but only a few fights ago, as I recall reading, his highest purse was $200,000. And you know as well as I do, that taxes and all the other expenses eat away over 50% of that.

You're absolutely right about that, I don't know where they all came from, but wherever it was they were never taught that before they throw out opinions, they should learn something about the subject first?Comment

jealous of having his tittle taken away to give to chavez instead of having chavez fight sergio for the wbc tittle?None of the stuff mentioned, has anything to do with Martinez, not one thing. So to suggest that Chavez is offensive and take it personally, because he trains the way he wants is whack.
Martinez is, as I stated, seemingly jealous, because Chavez Jr. has everything he wants
..... and had to do very little to get it.
That's just the breaks.
Martinez will probably break-down and cry if Chavez Jr. beats him without the help of the judges.Comment
