the standing 8 count is much underutilized nowadays and should be employed in situations like that. That being said molina is a prick for squatting and doing nothing giving the ref the freedom to decide his fate. It's definitely molina's fault but better judgement would have called for a standing 8, his eyes weren't glassy, he was moving with defensive alertness and demarco didn't land anything really damaging after the left.
HBO thinks Demarco-Molina was a bad stoppage?

Ok, there is no standing 8 count in pro boxing (mostly). When someone says "standing 8 count" in the pros it means the fighter was held up by the ropes from going down. So its a knockdown even tho the guy is not "down" in the literal term.the standing 8 count is much underutilized nowadays and should be employed in situations like that. Is that an actual rule? I've never heard of it, let alone see any refs enforce it...Hell yea it was a bad stoppage, and it was all the refs fault.
Fighters are NOT allowed to bend below the waist, so once Molina bent below Demarco's waist, he is committing a foul and the action must be stopped and the fighters separated, and that fighter warned
But no, the ref let him squat there for like 10 seconds while demarco punched the top of his head and then stopped itComment

no he wouldnt of fallen over.I was at the Ward-dawson fight, just watched it on tv for the first time right now and announcers were saying demarco-molina was a bad stoppage. really? i thought it was molinas fault 100% for squatting down and covering up. looks like he didnt know what to do in there and thought the ref was right for stopping it. do you guys think it was a bad stoppage?
and ref should of could of given an 8 count.
butt molina wasnt throwing back sos' ref had a legit reason to call it.
molina looked like he was taking a crap and thinking about what him and his girlfriend was going to do later on.Comment

Anyone saying this is a bad stoppage are wrong frankly.
The shots were not skimming his head or his gloves......they were raining down on top and the side of his head. Who knows how much longer he would of stayed down there taking those shots. Thats why back of the head shots are not allowed.
even if he did manage to get himself out of the crouch he would of been disoriented and would of took bigger shots from De marco.
And to say he was not dazed is a lie.Comment

For once this homer is correct.bad stoppage or not, real boxing fans know why it happened
you blame the ref? really? dude is squatting not doing anything..he's a pro, he should know how to get out of that..if he brain farted, that's on him
HBO thinks it's bad because they had to kill an extra 20mins of airtimeComment

Molina was shook, probably Demarco's power surpriced him. Demarco only landed two solid lefts and Molina just froze. Molina could have tapped the floor with his glove and he would have gotten that count. He froze, it was his fault not the ref's.Comment
