they fought and khan lost. he didnt even look particularly good in defeat, other than showing stones.
peterson is a different story. he was probably using drugs when he fought khan
you can't make a more definitive comparison than having two professional boxers fight each other on even terms, which garcia and khan were able to do. advantage garcia.
He was doing well against him before he got caught, don't give me some bullshit about Garcia getting his timing down. If Khan wasn't so arrogant, he'd have walked away as the victor after giving Garcia a boxing lesson.
Khan had no inside game against Peterson, I've never seen a fighter look so incompetent.
Khan is better than Garcia, he just needs some better guidance. I really think Naz Richardson is the perfect choice, not just training wise but mentor wise.

The first four rounds i thought it was going to be a malignaggi repeat.
and secondly, you can lose every second of ever round and get dropped, and then get caught and stopped, and you still lose.
the trouble started for khan in the third, after the big left hand. you're really willing to say that khan's a better fighter based on that?
he got completely destroyed, dude. how the hell is he a better fighter?

So Margarito doesn't have a great chin does he?
Khan got up quickly from Garica, guess he has a great chin using your logicLast edited by D4thincarnation; 09-03-2012, 08:39 AM.

that's total nonsense, frankly, and i dont understand how anybody can even think that way and pretend to be unbiased.
khan lost because he was arrogant?
the punches he took on his chin had nothing to do with it?
being arrogant had nothing to do with the big left hook that all but ended the fight (the first one, from which khan never recovered.)
the man is getting stopped by prescott, hurt by maidana, hurt by peterson, and stopped by garcia, and it's not because they were all flukes, or a product of khan being "too proud, not trying, unmotivated, etc."
somebody can bump the thread in three years and we'll see who is right, you, who think's khans a better fighter than all of the guys who have beaten him, or me, who thinks that losing a fight is an indicator of who is better.

Don't know what fight you were watching, but for 2 and a half round Khan was dominating the action.
Garica was landed a few of his punches but Khan was landed a hell of a lot more and it was very visible.
Khan was over confident, maybe angry, wanting to prove something and did not respect Garicia's power enough, squared up to much and left his chin out there to be hit.
Wanted to take Garcia out too quickly rather than box him wear him down and take him out when the time was right.

Khan should've employed a tighter defence against Garcia and used his boxing ability, minimizing risks. Khan was winning against Garcia up until he got caught, how did he respond? Throwing shots back with no defence, asking to get stopped. If he had some composure, got back to his boxing, he could've made it through that round.
I like you as a poster but I'm in awe at how blind you are on this matter.
Why even bring up the Prescott loss?
Not only was Lightweight too low for Khan, he fought Prescott in Ramadam.
What's wrong with getting hurt by Maidana?
How can you not see these errors that Khan makes? Errors that shouldn't be made and can be easily rectified. Errors which are made through arrogance and his inexperience.
I'm not proclaiming if Khan improves in a few areas, he'll become an ATG. I'm saying if Khan can make the right changes and improve, he can beat the likes of Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson.

How would you have told Khan to fight though?
Smother the left hook? Circle away and jab?

While I could see how he could be a match for steward, with his style and also with Wlad being 36 and going to retire at some point, he also needs to remember steward will drop your ass if you loose too much. Look at Taylor and Cotto and some of the others. He doesnt seem to keep the guys other than wlad very long. Roach has no problem keeping Khan after he gets KTFO again. So Khan needs to think about that.

- Tell Khan to keep his right-hand high.
- Jab. Double jabs, triple jabs, jab for the range, jab to set-up the attacks.
- Box on the outside and use movement.
If I was a top trainer and Khan came to me, I'd look straight at his fundamentals first. Ingrain the use of the jab and work on his defence and inside game. I'd bring in someone like Kirkland to spar with him, Khan needs to be taught a lesson.
I'd have him brought back down to Earth with some savage sparring and get the sense knocked into him.
Defence wise, he needs to combine some actual defence with movement. Ensure he brings his gloves back up high as soon as he throws and get him to adopt a more counter punching role. He's got the speed to feint, step-back and counter. He does need to be able to stand toe-to-toe though.
Inside game is non-existent. I cannot believe a fighter can get to a level like that and have no inside game, especially when fighting an inside fighter. I know that's the last place you want to be when fighting one but you should at least have adequate preparation. I do like Khan's uppercut and he could throw a few shots inside, then pivot out of the way.
