Julio Cesar Chavez was also close friends with the Arellano Felix brothers from the Tijuana Cartel. I can't post pictures or links yet but there's some around online. Francisco Javier Arellano Felix, the oldest brother entered the ring with Chavez holding one of his belts when he fought Hector "Macho" Camacho and he worked Chavez' corner when he fought Greg Haugen in Mexico City.

Meanwhile, he was caught transporting marijuana for "Chapo" Guzman in Tijuana without permission from the brothers. What made it worse was "El Bebe" claimed the marijuana belonged to the brothers.

In 1996, working with Chavez for his first fight with Oscar de la Hoya, he was gunned down in a Holiday Inn hotel in Toluca, Mexico by AFO gunmen.

People are really blowing this out of proportion. According to Dibella, Martinez exchanged words with some individuals, and a car belonging to one of Martinez's team members had paint spilled on it. He said that it wasn't associated with Chavez fans, but he canceled the public event as a precaution.
