simply put, there's just no way i see this fight playing out differently than these two scenarios. good post. man, i just can't wait until fight night, to see exactly how it goes down.
there is no other way for martinez to win, the judges will def be bought by arum that night. he has to knock him out. hopefully it's either in highlight reel fashion like the williams one or systematic breakdown like he did dzinziruk and macklin.

Some of those who believe Chavez will win look at Martinez's last 3 performances and say, "If those guys had success, then Chavez will too! He's bigger, stronger, has a better chin, and comes in weighing more." What is being misunderstood is that Barker/Macklin/Dzinziruk actually had some boxing ability, and it's what allowed them to be effective in spurts cuz it forced the counter-puncher to switch his style up. Does Chavez know how to box? Is he even disciplined enough to use a jab to set up his offense? Sergio's last three opponents had the right idea, they just lacked the physical and mental endurance to keep up with him. Jr's advantages are also his disadvantages. His weight will give him better punch resistance, but he'll be noticeably slower than Sergio and will be forced to rely on timing. Chavez has the height advantage but doesn't use it, so he's basically gonna do what Williams did and fight at Sergio's level, therefore presenting an easier target. Chavez's high-guard will serve him well, unless he gets lazy and drops his hands when he's in range. Other than that, it seems like Team Chavez is hoping that Martinez's age and Jr's weight will make up for his limited skill-set.

I actually think it could play out a few ways. We've seen Jr bounce around & move away from opps in order to preserve energy and to feel them out. He may employ a similar tactic.Honestly though, I feel lik I have to go study sr & watch how he fought & defeated athletic style fighters to get real insight to what he's going to showw his son as a key to beating Serg. The only reason Macklin & Barker had any modicum of success vs sergio is bc 1 he was not motivated emotionally to fight either guy. & 2 Neither fighter fought their normal come fwd aggressive style. Instead they opted to sit back & limit offense & limit opps for SM to be offensive. That caught serge off guard. Their patience & tactic of sitting back & forcig sergio to come fwd was unexpected. In fact the only real flaw u see in those fights was his lack of adjustment on the fly. Dzinzurich was totally destroyed. But considering how little he was able to throw and land & the damage he did to both guys is pretty impressive. We'll see wut jr brings. Has he grown...yes. Is he good enuf to beat serg...i don't think so....not yet. I still have a feeling they may pull some shenanigans at the 11th hr & **** the fight up....or something. ut we'll see.

Actually the number one reason why people are picking Chavez Jr to win is because they were impressed at how he dismantled Lee. A large number of people changed their mind after that one fight, it's crazy how fickle boxing fans are.

If Sergio didnt turn old and washed up over night he should win the fight.
I noticed that Jr. improves every time he steps in the ring but i dont think it will be enough to deal with Martinez. Martinez will not knock Chavez out but the ref will either have to stop the fight in the later rounds or Roach throws the towel.

If anyone's getting knocked out; it's Martinez.
                +
If this fight goes the distance; Martinez deserves win but gets robbed anyway.

I hate watching chavez fight because he sucks. He has the weight advantage, peds, no jab, sloppy defense, flat footed, etc. how the fk do people root for this guy??? Martinez will make him look bad.

I was somewhat impressed too, but it's obvious to anybody with eyes that Lee and Martinez are not the same caliber of fighter. I keep hearing people touting the weight factor as the biggest reason why Chavez will win.

What I noticed in the Lee fight was that he seemed to be in better physical condition than he was for the Rubio fight. Lee had the boxing ability, but he didn't have the proper stance nor the athletic ability to out-maneuver Chavez in that small ring that they fought in. Lee lacks torso movement, he stood too straight up and provided a stationary target for Chavez to tee off on.

People on here are bugging. Trashing Martinez skill set just to hate on him is a sign of not knowing the sport of boxing. Martinez is KO'n his opponents in every fight since Paul Williams and all of them guys before Chavez Jr fight are better than him. Chavez Jr is the definition of a hype job. Dude can't even stay in shape or focused to be a real champion. what has he done in the sport that would make him Martinez's best opponent and someone that even has a chance at beating a fighter like Sergio Martinez? Jr couldn't even finish off lesser caliber fighters. He got Andy Lee out of there but how established and prestige was Andy Lee? The hate on Martinez is strong. Every time Martinez said the KO was coming it came as of late. to me This is a mismatch in favor of Martinez hands down. All Chavez Jr has is size and fat going for him but everything else is in favor of Sergio Martinez. Speed, stamina, skill, ring generalship, condition, strategy....... I'll bet anyone on this thread 1BIL that Sergio creams Chavez Jr and stops him in the 10/11 round. the way Jr fights there is no way he is making it to the final bell.
