I think the fight between the two was too close to say he is 'far' better. But, making either 'respectful' has little to do with who is better or worse - that depends solely on the fighters mentality. I like to think of Vic as a very stubborn guy who doesn't shy away from punches in a way a lot of other guys would, and I feel like Moreno made him pretty respectful and made him think a bit more about his actions in there. I'd argue he made Vic more respectful than the harder hitting Mares did. It's just something about cagey fighters that are hard to hit. Being countered, even if by a light puncher, seems to effect guys more than coming in and being hit by a guy with a powerful punch.

I think Mares, being more technical than Vic and more of a thinker to begin with, he'd be made respectful too by the looks Moreno gives.

Good posts from everyone, enjoyed reading them ... and there were like ... no troll posts, amazing!

It seems the majority think that Moreno will simply outbox Mares. While I could see this happening, I don't think people give Mares' boxing ability enough credit.

He prefers to brawl and when he realizes he can take your best punch, he usually opts to do so. If he fights smart - which I think would be a mix of technical fighting (throwing the overhand right to counter when he can) and strong pressure (body work, and being relentless with a higher workrate than Moreno).

Again, I think Moreno will land the cleaner punches in the early rounds but Mares workrate will be consistently higher. I think his heart and will will get him through this fight with Moreno.

Either way I am super pumped for this fight, with Chavez vs. Martinez (if it actually goes down), Ward vs. Dawson, and now Mares vs. Moreno .... boxing is back to making some great fights that need to happen

I'm thinking the same...i can't pick a winner, i like both guys. They both are excellent and it should be a great fight. Glad to see this match. Neither guy is boring by any means.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say mares wins a very controversial decision victory, possibly a robbery. After the agbeko low-blow fiasco, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a little extra 'help' from the officials.

Mares first day of sparring today. (I'm at the gym now) Mares is very motivated for this fight.

moreno schools him but gets robbed since they're in cali. can't see it going any other way. i like mares, but i just don't think he's capable of defeating chemito. we'll see what happens when it actually happens though. looking forward to it.

Why do you think this? How has he proven to be more durable than Moreno? Don't think it matters that much anyway since Mares is a lot more hittable than Moreno.
