From what I understand shogun is a legend and machida was fighting for a titleshot right and was former champion? If they are not made mma fighters I dont really know any.Maybe brock lesner? oh wait.

I don't think any titles were on the line tbh, those fights were for a shot at a title for another PPV in the future. They aren't made fighters and still doing higher numbers than Ortiz, Donaire, and Khan together? Lesnar did as high of numbers that Pac and Mayweather do.

I don't want to ruin this garbage thread and the agendas of the TS any further, so I will stick to PM's now regarding this topic.

If you're over 14 years old and still watch wrestling, slap yourself.

I think the point some people are trying to make is we always here from MMA fans that boxing is dying and everyone is watching and prefers MMA now and even hearing Dana saying that it will be next to the NFL in less than 10 years. But now we see boxing doing almost the same number of viewers even though fox is available to millions of more people than HBO is.

As far as comparing their attendance, that is hard to do. I live in the Dallas area there are boxing events you can attend in the area but there are no high level MMAevents you can attend so when UFC comes to town then of course there is going to be a big crowd b/c it's like a concert that doesn't come very often so people want to go see while they can. I am sure there have been several boxing events in the SO Cal area in the last year but how many UFC events have been there?

UFC is being used to build up Fox's FuelTV channel just like boxing was used to build up HBO and Showtime in the 80s.

Just like HBO and Show eventually hurt boxing's popularity, Fuel will kill the UFC's.

Actually. Shogun and machida are two of the few fighters I watch UFC for. I say that because Pride was huge when I lived in Japan and shogun was a part of that. Also, both shogun and machida are true martial artists who have refined their craft even before UFC gained its momentum. Now, it seems like people sign up at a gym just to get into the UFC without any REAL martial arts experience. A couple years of ju-jitsu thrown in with a few years of muay thai is what I usually see as far as experience goes nowadays. I respect all martial arts, but MMA just does not have the same luster that boxing delivers, to my expectations at least.

Having said all that, that free card on FOX was some of the best fights that has come out of the octogon as of late.

Was there a gay pride rally on or something ? That might explain the low numbers.

Surely FOx will be canceling this deal soon. They could get twice those ratings showing reruns of Cops.
