best ratings on a bad card in years. ppl read what they want. but 1.4 for a 22 yo against a heavy underdog is very impressive.

Canelo is the same age and does better numbers on BAD against heavy underdogs.

Despite Thompson not being a very good opponent, 8.6 million people in Ukraine watched Wlad-Thompson on IHTEP, plus another 8.5 million in Germany on RTL (lower than past numbers because Wlad had already KOed Thompson) and another several million in Russia (on three different networks).

Sucks that people only care about HBO/Show networks when it comes to boxing.

i dunno why ppl think 1.4 isnt an astronomical number. it is. the highest rated hbo show "game of thrones" only gets about 2 mil viewers at its peak. chavez' number are astronomical, canelo's are as well. and so was broner's 1.4. those are very good numbers.

Even if boxing is mostly being recorded, people are still seeing it. Chavez tried to make it seem like HBO was adding the + same day so they could boost their ratings. This is the way ratings are reported in general.

I wouldn't stress out about if some fights are being recorded with DVR, it still counts as ratings and people are still watching Boxing.

That people are watching boxing recorded on DVR isn't stressing me out as much as not being able to compare rating numbers from different years. Before 2011, all the numbers I'm finding were reported as simply live viewers. For example, in 2010, Devon Alexander vs Kotelnik did 1.057 million live viewers, Malignaggi vs Khan did 1.228 million live viewers , Williams vs Cintron did 1.16 million live viewers, and Pavlik vs Martinez did 1.2 million live viewers. Here's a link to a compilation someone did and where I got the numbers, but I'm pretty sure they were all taken from the boxingtruth website where Chavez reported them as simply live viewers.

All those 2010 numbers don't have the benefit of having the DVR numbers on them. If the 920k live viewers figure for Canelo vs Hatton is correct, what does it say that freaking Alexander vs Kotelnik had more live viewers (1.057 million) in 2010 than one of today's biggest draws?

There's a possibility that the 920k number was incorrect and there usually really isn't that big of a difference between live and live + same day. There's also the possibility that John Chavez was really reporting the the live + same day all along in 2010, but didn't realize it. I don't know.

all of these numbers are down from 4-5 years ago, so i wouldnt call any of these numberes astronomical. back then if u had 1.6 million or less it was considered bad.

in 2007 calzaghe vs kessler was the worst hbo boxing ratings ever at the time with 1.59 million viewers.

I can't help but notice Donaire and Gamboa having relatively low numbers, which is really weird to me considering their styles and the fact that Top Rank promoted them.
