    Chavez Jr. at Super Middleweight

I'm not completely sold on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. as far as him being (or ever becoming) an elite fighter yet, but he's definitely at the very least a good solid fighter. However, given that there's already talk about him moving up to 168, how do you guys see him doing in that division? His fight against Martinez in September will most likely be his last at middleweight - unless it's a draw or a close loss - then a rematch would probably happen. If Chavez wins (even if it's close), I don't necessarily see a rematch happening unless it's at a higher weight.

So anyway, how does Chavez Jr. fare at 168? Does he have any chance at beating any of the top guys there? I don't see him beating Andre Ward at all, and even though it would probably be a war while it lasted, Carl Froch would most likely knock him out. But what about guys like Lucian Bute? Kessler? Abraham (is he still fighting at 168?)

I think they all beat him and likely stop him.
Probably give him a shot at beating Bute though.

Froch stops him, Ward & Dirrell UD all day long, Kessler UD/late stoppage, Abraham smashes him to bits.

Yeah, I agree with this. I mean, the opposition is there for him to make some serious noise at 168, but I just don't think he has what it takes to actually beat any of those guys....besides maybe Bute, simply by breaking him down.

Haha! Yeah, I know, but like I originally said...win, lose or draw against Martinez, that will probably be his last fight at 160. I suppose he'll make 160 again for a rematch if he loses via close decision (SD, MD or controversial UD), or if the fight ends in a draw, but if he happens to win (even if it's close), I doubt he'll give Martinez a rematch unless they do it at 168 or at a catchweight right in the middle.

Oh, and I don't necessarily hope for his downfall at all. In fact, it'd be cool if he actually beat Martinez and then some of the top guys at 168, 'cause that would then make him a serious star, but I'm just calling it how I see it right now. His fight against Martinez will definitely go a long way in showing what (if anything) he can do against that level of opposition.

Arum admitted that he didn't think Chavez was ready for Martinez until recently. Which I guarantee Martinez's size has a lot to do with why they are fighting.

That being said, I highly doubt Arum is in a rush to throw Chavez in with Ward, Kessler, Froch, Dirrell(s)

He'll go up and fight Pavlik and then win a vacant WBC and not fight the top tier fighters.

I'm guessing they'll either be at 175 or not fighting by the time Chavez is "ready to step up"

Chavez will walk out of the ring with the W with Martinez, one way or another. Don't expect him to fight the same level of opposition from now on...

Size adavantage gone at 168 so i think he could beat Stieglitz who while a good offensive fighter folds when pressure is applied other then that Bute,Froch,Dirrel,Ward,Kessler all win hell even Abraham who has looked poor at the weight would beat him.Im very interested in Stieglitz Abraham next month

168 is going to be one hell of a step up as they have all been fighting each other, those guys are ready to rock and won't be daunted by the occasion.
Chavez is taking his first step up to that level with Martinez, the next step into 168 is the lions den

I can agree with this except the Abraham part. I think Abraham is one of the few Chavez can beat at 168. I think Chavez-Bute would play out like Chavez-Lee or Froch-Bute.

I was just thinking that Pavlik would probably be his first opponent at 168. It would be a fun scrap to watch, but even if Chavez wins, it won't really tell us much about what he'll be able to do at that weight. Arum's excuse for matching him carefully will probably be that they're waiting for him to "grow into that weight." LOL
