Toney used the philly shell and wasn't boring in his prime.

as long as the boxer has a dynamic offense that compliments his defense.... like james toney, floyd @ 130's, broner (currently).

Not every one can fight out of the philly shell arm positioning. Like any other defensive posture it needs to be accompanied by head movement, footwork, and blocking punches. Just cause your hands are positioned a certain way does not mean that you will be a boring fighter.

If more boxers chose the philly shell posture it would not equal boring fighters. Boxing styles are more regional anyways. It would be difficult for European fighters to adopt this because they're taught to block shots in a peek-a-boo type style with very little head movement. Other boxers prefer to brawl so they don't bother with too much defense; they're offense becomes their defense. What works for one man would not work for another. Boxers know that there is not a perfect style but there is a style that is best suited to their physical and mental make up.

As said; every boxer can't fight like that anyways.

You need good speed and great reflexes to pull that off.

Every style has its advantages and dis-advantages, and every fighter can create or modify their own style. Fighting isnt about styles, it's about intelligence and adjustments. Anything can happen in a fight.

The philly style(i'm not even 100% sure what you're referring to-there are different kinds of philly fighters) isn't very good offensively and is very ineffective if your opponent chooses to avoid leading and being countered.

I see no reason for a sanction fight to not allow it. you can not limit styles of boxing in the ring.
I disagree, 90% of the time leaping in with wild punches in a street fight will get you ko'd. If you are using the philly shell in a street fight, you have to be wayyyyy more active, you actually have to be the aggressor.

The hardest style for street fights seem to be the Roy Jones, Martinez style of fighting with your hands down, atlest it has worked for me.

This applies to any style in boxing. Variety, it's why we watch it. Also, very few other international schools teach it. The style wouldn't be conducive to a lot of Mexican-styled fighters, European high-guards, etc.

You can't even walk into a Cuban gym down here with a Philly Shell defense lol. They'll straight up refuse to train you. Especially in the amateurs

It's very much so a Black American style. It's what makes it unique and its why we watch it
