Free PPV? I dont even know what that means. Must be Swedish for suckers.

Any-who, If they didn't have a good dancing partner for Canelo. Than putting the fight on CBS would have been their best option, as it would equate to maximizing his his exposure to the casual crowd.

Williams was out? There's still Lara,Vanes,Rosado,Molina,Bundrage, Quintana,Delvin Rodriguez,Dzinziruk or at least some top contenders at 154 like Charlie Ota, or Damian Jonak. It's not like it was last minute replacement, Canelo had time, they choosed another joke fight.
Ill give you Lara but the smart move is waiting on him. That would be a bigger fight down the road. As far as those other dudes you cant go up against Chavez/Martinez with those stiffs. Lopez can match up with Canelo skillwise. Hes small but Canelos not the type of pressure fighter to exploit that mimatch. Hes banking on Lopez not being able to hang blow for blow. If Lopez can turn it into a technical fight he can compete with Canelo.

JCC Jr. was just as protected. It was only recently that they've started to take off the kid gloves. But when you fought 45+ times and the best fighter you've fought is Andy Lee, you have been protected like Fort Knox.

Golden Boy can't sell this garbage. They aren't fooling anybody.

He was, but his line of opposition in comparison to Canelo when he won his belt is far greater to Canelo's... I mean Jr. is at least fighting people in his weightclass... Canelo can't say the same.
Also, I think Rubio was the oldest guy he fought since winning the belt

Problem with Lara,Vanes and those other guys is that I am not sure the network would have bought it. Unfortunately, its not always what the fans want to see in terms of contenders vs. those that have already been marketed like Canelo. The networks seem to have some say on what they will buy and show. I will try to watch both main events though if they dont overlap
This is silly. The networks would have much rather had Lara or Vanes over Lopez. Lopez is a 140 lber that was viewed as a no name no hoper when he fought Ortiz. He got a nice win but nobody, NOBODY knows who he is. And, those that do simply do not believe he can be competitive against the much bigger, stronger Canelo. The only reason Lopez got the nod on a big time show was that it was viewed as a big set up (i.e., promotion) for the billed Alvarez v. Ortiz fight in September.

Contrast that with Lara and Vanes. Lara was big enough to have a fight with Paul Williams on HBO (and soundly kick his ass). Vanes co-headed a Saturday night fight on HBO against Kassim Ouma.

By the way, Lopez just signed with Al Haymon. I'm shocked Haymon would let one of his fighters compete in a match like this. Lopez is going to get his ass kicked and Haymon doesn't let his fighters fight in fights where that could even remotely happen. If Haymon's fighter takes a fight, it means Haymon has already concluded that the fighter can't lose. I wouldn't be surprised if Lopez found a way to pull out of this fight.

That's definitely true, but you have to also consider their ages: JCCjr is 26, Canelo is 22. Either way, both have belts they never earned. At least JCCjr is now fighting real competition--somewhat surprising given his fight against Zbik. If Zbik had had any power, he'd have won that fight probably by KO, rather than suffering a split decision loss.

now that really would have been something. And if the fight was on CBS, instead of Showtime, calling it a Free Pay-per-view makes more sense, since Showtime is a Premium channel you have to pay for

how is Showtime free again? Last time I checked, Showtime is a premium channel you have to pay to get

the fights aren't being shown on CBS or Fox, they're on premium cable

I guess you don't understand the concept of free. If the Canelo-Lopez card actually was free, and available on say FOX or CBS ... and people complained about it THEN you could tell them to STFU because the free comment would be dead on true. But with the fights on Showtime instead of Showtime PPV, they still aren't free

Golden Boy is just trying to trying to save face with this "Free PPV" garage because Canelo is stuck matched up with an undersized potentially over matched opponent and going head to head on PPV vs HBO with Chavez Jr- Martinez is a bad idea
