I think they definitely tried to make a good fight for canelo(Kirkland, williams, ortiz) unfortunately it didnt pan out with any..in regards to free PPV, I guess its good for showtime subscribers for the fights that will be televised. I subscribe to HBO though..but look at it this way, not sure what Martinez-Chavez card will look like, but I dont doubt it will be all of $50

Williams was out? There's still Lara,Vanes,Rosado,Molina,Bundrage, Quintana,Delvin Rodriguez,Dzinziruk or at least some top contenders at 154 like Charlie Ota, or Damian Jonak. It's not like it was last minute replacement, Canelo had time, they choosed another joke fight.
We all know why Lopez was chosen, so no big surprise

They offered the fight to Cotto, but I guess he was on vacation. Quintana would have been a good fight. Problem with Lara,Vanes and those other guys is that I am not sure the network would have bought it. Unfortunately, its not always what the fans want to see in terms of contenders vs. those that have already been marketed like Canelo. The networks seem to have some say on what they will buy and show. I will try to watch both main events though if they dont overlap

GBP need a cashcow, Canelo is their safest bet, hence these opponents who don't/won't really trouble him.
The likes of Martinez and JCCjnr are nothing but a distant dream for Canelo right now.
