Comments Thread For: Garcia Says Trust is Gone, Parts Ways With Victor Ortiz

2012 has produced some telling upsets thus far in the world of boxing and the aftermath of some of the aforementioned defeats is still taking shape.

On Sunday morning I caught up with Ventura, California-based trainer Danny Garcia, who revealed to me that he is no longer working with his former star fighter, Victor Ortiz. The news comes on the heels of Ortiz’s dramatic loss to Josesito Lopez last month in Los Angeles, a fight that Ortiz was winning but one that he would elect not to continue in following the ninth round because of a broken jaw he had suffered. He needed a new trainer. Needs someone to teach him it's okay to jab.

Garcia is too brave with other peoples health. He should of pulled Margarito out and he got ruined because of it. Ortiz's career could have possibly been cut short if he didn't quit himself. Its the corners job to look out for their fighters health, to pull them out when they are too brave for their own good. When a fighter wants to quit and his corner is not listening something is wrong. I don't blame Ortiz for not trusting Garcia.

Victor's next move is going to tell us definitively the way his boxing career will go from here. If he seeks out a serious, respected trainer, someone that won't take any of his bull****, he can turn his career around. If he seeks out a glorified "yes man", his career is over.

After all those uppercut bombs Ortiz was eating with a broken jaw Garcia should have thrown in the towel. Instead he risked the health and probably the life of his own fighter to try and get the win.

Ortiz was doing the right thing, Garcia was a nob. This is the best thing possible for Ortiz.

Pedro Diaz would be a great trainer for him. I wouldn't mind Roach either.
