Why does Cotto=Gatti all of a sudden?

HBO reiterated this line in their "Year in Review" segment after the Winky fight. It seems like Gatti is just another way of saying "limited fighter". I suppose barely getting out of a fight alive against a mediocre opponent makes you sort of Gatti-ish, but it's not like this is a compliment.

So Cotto is suddenly an exciting fighter because he got exposed for his limited movement and defence? Sounds like HBO is desperate to put a good spin on one of their marquee names.

yeah - thats more of an insult to cotto comparing him to gatti. the funniest part was when the piece was near its end and larry merchant goes (don't quote me on this) "we saw cotto this year show his mettle" blah blah blah - and then he's about to elaborate, you know larry merchant - very thorough, indepth and something very pensive was about to come out of his mouth when all of a sudden he blurts out "i love cotto" and that was all! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA - it was larry's gayest moment.

They have to say something about Cotto. They realize he won't be the next Tito so they say hes the next Gatti. I guess being Gatti is a compliment/insult as Gatti IS exciting but ISNT too skilled...

I still think there's hope for Cotto is he gets back to basics and works on his defence and footwork again. Like you say calling him Gatti is basically writing him off altogether. Not that I have anything against Gatti, of course, but you know what they're implying what they call him that.

          hmm

It's good they said that, because it shows they are truthful. They are saying Cotto is exciting but has weaknesses, like Gatti, and that's just the truth of the matter. Cotto, also like Gatti used to do, supposedly drinks and parties too much close to fights. When Gatti stopped that, he looked impressive in rematches vs Ward and subsequent fights. Cotto needs quit that **** now, or he will get his ass killed by Hatton, Tszyu, or Floyd.

The real question is, how is Gatti getting all these matches?

Winky is boring. He got booed at his own fight.

Gatti has NEVER beaten anyone in big fights. What makes people think this time will be any different.

The question still stands, how is Gatti getting all these matches.

Because people like to see Gatti fight and Winky did a great job considering he was sick and had such an akward opponent who would have given any top middleweight trouble.
