Boxrec at one point had Donaire at 5'7" 5'8" and chopped him down to 5'5"... Probably got paid or some **** to justify him for fighting midgets. I found this out when I went to go show someone and realized they changed his height. Then I felt dumb as fk.

this would be a great fight but slick athletic counter punchers almost always beat aggressive come forward mexican figthers. Add the fact that donaire is bigger & probably the harder puncher than mares, i dont see how mares can beat donaire.

It looks Donaire is standing straight and Vazquez's back is humped a little. It looks like i'm picking anything, but you'd be surprised how standing up straight would make a difference.

        I would say there's about a 1 inch diff.

Have you ever seen Mares fight? He is not an aggressive come forward fighter. He is one of the very few Mexican boxers. Canelo, Mares, and Garcia are the very few active Mexican boxers who would actually box opponents to a decision using movement, accuracy, hand speed, and not being drawn in to wars.

Hard to tell from a pic the real height difference but Im telling you Donaire is definitely taller and Boxrec used to have him at 5'7" or 5'8" and took him down to 5'5" which he definitely ISN'T IMO.

Also, it's hard to tell if Vazquez is really hunched (cause of the shirt) or his back is just thicker than Donaire's.

I've watched a lot of Mares's fights and he is an agressive come fwd fighter, that is taylor made for Donaire - that is not the fight for him at this stage in his career, and he likes to engage and he gets hits alot, and what i mean by hit alot is he gets hit flush against not as skilled opponents. Donair'e weakness is he is not good at setting up his opponent and lacks patience for stretches of the fight. But if you throw a lazy ass right his counter left hook is a 1 punch nightmare - he will knock your A$$ out - mares likes to press he is not going to try to out box donaire, he will smother / maul you - throw low Mares is scrappy, but that aggresion works into nonito's style - very hard counter puncher makes you think twice about what you are about to throw - Floyd mayweather / bernard hopkins / Juan Manuel Marquez / Canelo Alverez / Erislandy Lara / Nonito Donaire / David Haye / Antonio Tarver / Thomasz Adamek / Eddie Chambers / Guilermo Rigandoeux / and a couple more are the rare the few the proud the Counter Punchers......"Throw some lazy wrong shyt and see what happens"......

They used to have him listed as a southpaw too. They did the same thing with Manny, the more they sold Manny as a "giant killer" the smaller his arm length and reach got on the tale of the tape.

At least they finally changed it to say he is an orthodox fighter though. The only guy he has ever knocked out from the southpaw stance is Mthlane that I can recall.

Seriously though, he is 5'8" and now they're trying to say he is only 5'5"...I noticed that during the HBO broadcast as well.

I think that would be a great fight at this point...Donaire doesn't look superior at the higher weights, at 126, I don't like his odds even given his excellent skillset.
