Comments Thread For: Steward: Klitschko Can Stop Thompson in Five Rounds

Emanuel Steward, the trainer for IBO/WBO/WBA/IBF world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (57-3, 50KOs) believes his fighter is fully capable of stopping Tony Thompson (36-2, 24KOs) in the first five rounds of their rematch this Saturday night in Berne, Switzerland. Klitschko stopped Thompson in the eleventh round of their 2008 match. Steward says the Thompson fight was one of the hardest in Wladimir's career and he was hoping they would never face him again.

I just realized this fight is happening next week, and I heard nothing about it until I saw the poster for it on Freedom.'s avatar yesterday. Wow, heavyweight boxing is really dead.

The same Tony Thompson that Wlad already beat? What a ****** matchup. Wlad needs to go for the KO in round 1, and stop him before the end of the first round.

I've stopped listening to Steward, his advice is pretty crappy IMO, especially with Andy Lee. Part of why Lee lost was because Steward couldn't adapt the game plan to stop Chavez, all he told Lee to do was box and that Chavez was getting tired and we all saw what happened with that.

Definitely he can but he probably won't go for it, even if Steward pleads with him. Wladimir does things at his own pace, with minimal risk.

Well, that's it. Stewards finally cracked.

My thoughts exactly. There were fights where he could have stopped his opponent in less than 4 but carried them.
