Is Tito Trinidad mentally weak or easily discouraged?

    I think so...

    Here are my points...

Against Hopkins, his father had to lie to him and tell him he was winning to keep him from being discouraged

Even Tito fans will say "something was wrong with him that night"

Lost fight to Hopkins, then retired.

Low blowed Vargas when Vargas was gaining momentum in fight --> desperate/lack of confidence in winning so he cheated

Saw that it was hard to hit Winky, I wouldn't say he gave up, but he realized this and pretty much ate jabs the whole night, not being the vicious fighter he normally is

    Retired after fight to Winky

He was definitely discouraged in both fights but not "easily" discouraged. He was discouraged by two wonderful fighters who fought superb gameplans. I don't think he lacked heart. I don't buy the lowblow argument. SOme fighters just hit low. I don't think it was because he lacked heart

Trinidad had a huge ego, but after losing to Hopkins he lost a lot. Many say that he was one dimensional, but if you saw Trinidad early in his career then you know he was a boxer-puncher and not the other way around. Trinidad fell in love with Ko's and only looked for that. Once he found boxers who knew how to avoid getting slaughtered, he had problems and got discouraged.

He had a huge will to win as evidence by the low blows against Vargas.

But you know what, Hopkins took his heart beat him boxing then beat him up.

Hopkins beat Trinidad before he fought him. He burned the Puerto Rican Flag!!!!! Trinidad went in to kill him and did not box at all. He beat Vargas because he was better not because of the low blows. Just because he was knocked down by Vargas means nothing, Tito has been knocked down so many times. Tito against Winky was just a bad combination of fighting styles. When Tito was younger and lighter he was very active and threw punches in bunches, but as an older heavier fighter he became slower and threw less punches. Tito should have never fought as a middleweight maybe 154 but not 160. Same goes for DLH. He was a boxer-puncher as a welter but became a knock out king and stuck with that.

So do I think he is weak minded, no. I think he lost skills that are pertinent in the ring with fighters that you cannot beat by just overpowering them. He was too confident in the winky fight and when he was met with a challenge, he had no other game plan.

Eres Boricua, verdad?

Tito knocked out Mayorga... Mayorga has a granite chin. He was a good puncher at that weight.

It always amazes me how people want to make grand judgments of a fighter based on one fight. When Tito didn't beat Wright, it was said that he didn't have 160 punching power. IN a fight where he didn't get to land one clean power shot, how cna it be proved that he didn't have middleweight pop?
