Well, this is almost duck like in nature but I see the reasoning. They want a less dangerous opponent who can give him some confidence at the weight class. Why put him in against a big strong "prospect" who benefits more from this fight than Maidana? A loss to an "unknown" would be devestating right now and if he wins, it'd be the same as fighting a lesser quality opponent. I'll give Maidana the pass on this one since I doubt the dude fears anyone. Boxing is also a business and they can't afford having him lose on anything that isn't a fighter with at least a good name. I'm actually surprised at the honesty In the article lol

Khan is moving up, Guerrero is moving up. Dulorme is coming up in the WW ranks. Kell Brook might make an appearance in the US some time... Hopefully. Josesito was doing some decent bodywork on Ortiz and is pretty tough, that would probably be a 50/50 fight. Same with Paulie Malignaggi, I like Paulie and if he moves around enough and doesn't let Maidana trap him on the ropes he could box himself to a UD vs Maidana too. Whose stamina isn't all that great IMO. And there's also Thurman who he just avoided... Won't call it a duck altho Im tempted to.
Oh yea, Idk what Mathysse plans are but if they ever meet Im picking Mathysse over Maidana too. Why isn't he fighting Mathysse at 140 anyway? He said he didn't like 147 right after the Alexander fight but then they stay at 147. It sounds like an excuse now for losing to Alexander.

to the point, the fight with Thurman wasn't even mentioned until Ortiz lost and Maidana became a potential opponent for Canelo. if he can believe the rumors it looks like Maidana may face Canelo.
so why take a risky fight against an Al Haymon fighter, when a bigger Canelo payday is out there? it's a hoe move by Maidana because he should fight the guy he's supposed to fight but if you get an offer to fight GBP's cash cow, that outweighs a fight with a talented yet unknown or proven guy.
Canelo = more $$$$$ than Thurman.
also golden boy already said that maidana will NOT get the shot against canelo.........& maidana knows that already but he's using that as an excuse to not fight thurman.
maidana is obviously scared of a 23 year old american kid.
lmao
