Damn that was a great fight. Props to Lopez for moving up and fighting a great fight. Props to Ortiz too for a great fight, dude has been in some great fights. I dont know how many other people could continue with a broken jaw. Great night for boxing.

No excuses can be made for Ortiz tonight. Ali fought 15 rounds with a broken jaw and he took punches from a heavy weight. What we saw tonight is something that is embedded in Ortiz's character. When he is faced with adversity, he folds. His career is over if you ask me. I don't think he will be able to mentally recover from this. Stick a fork in him, he's done

Dude, ONE HELLUVA fight! Cong**** to Lopez, I really think he would have stoped Ortiz one way or another. He took the previous round off and then came back with that vicious flurry in that round that broke his jaw. I'm sure from then on Lopez was going to go to work! As far as Ortiz goes, I do not hold it against him that he quit, his jaw is totally broken and he had to do what he had to do, he fought hard he slugged it out but he would have got hit so many uppercuts and hooks after that , his jaw would have been shot out sideways. props to Lopez man! coming up in weight and beating the hell out of Ortiz. He is my frickin hero man. dude is a stud!

victor ortiz doesnt have wins over caliber fighters like winky and quartey. plus he went out on his shield against trinidad and dlh.

certain fighters are just more willing to go the distance push it to the limit. weather its ali broken jaw king arthur broken jaw. even malniaggi against cotto he had to get surgery on his cheek bone and i believe his jaw was wired as well. no pro boxer is ***** just some have less limits than others

That was just a great fight and a total surprise...I was expecting a dud. Total respect for Lopez...nobody can say what Ortiz felt except him about quitting. Anyways Lopez wasn't going to be stopped tonight and was truly the better man...he won me over and I wasn't a fan...very exiting fight to watch. Finally something good.

While we would all of course like to see a blood and guts warrior mentality in boxers, it is an exception not the norm. That's why Abraham and Ali received the admiration they deserved when they overcame physical and mental barriers, but can't expect all fighters to be like that. That's why heart is a category all its own in a fighter's skill-set. Some have more of it than others, and that's what makes some more loved even if they lack something else in the technical department.

I am not going to fault Ortiz for choosing not to continue. It leaves a bad taste in a fan's mouth, especially with his prior history, but I can't fault him too much for it.
While I agree with you in a way I'm sorry, when you're making hundreds of thousands for stepping into the ring you are expected to be better than the average internet fan. I'm willing to fight Lopez for a grand. Seriously I'll take his punches for a grand. I can't say I'll last more than a round but I'll let him ko me for a grand. Seriously Tyson will have more respect for his mentality than Ortiz in a decade.

Broken jaws im sure can be different but i had mine broken in the first punch of a real fight b4. I never even knew it till waaay later.

Finishing the rd was probably the easy part.
