HBO showing the replay of the Pac/Bradley fight right before the Chavez Jr. fight had nothing to do with the viewing numbers, right?

They did the same thing when Jr. fought Manfredo - HBO replayed Pac/JMM III. Bob Arum ain't no dummy.

They're boxing fans regardless, at least you'd hope.

If they wanted to watch the Pac-Bradley replay and didn't want to see Chavez, they'd simply change the channel.

So no, I don't think it helped TOO much. Chavez jr is a big draw by himself.

I'm not claiming that Jr. doesn't have a lot fans or that he can't pack a stadium full, by any stretch.

However, to think that the first showing of any Pacquiao fight following a PPV event (especially for so many that didn't/wouldn't pay for the PPV) didn't increase the viewing numbers exponentially, would be ludicrus IMO. Especially given the controversy and outrageous responses by media and fans regarding the outcome of the Pac/Bradley fight in the first place. A lot of people who hadn't seen the fight yet also wanted to know what all the fuss was about and judge for themselves. They did the same thing with the Pac/JMM III replay. And as you said, they're fans. Why would they then just "change the channel" when Chavez Jr. came on? That doesn't make much sense IMO.

Personally, I think the only way to tell what the real number of T.V. viewers (not attendance #'s) strictly for Chavez Jr. are, would be to have him headlining his own card without a bigger attraction being replayed previously. There's a reason TR re-plays Pacquiao PPV fights before Chavez's fights. It's a win win situation for TR, and obviously, it works.

WTF? Are you seriously comparing the numbers on free television to a PPV contest? If Mayweather/Cotto had been on HBO, 20 million people would have watched it. That doesn't have a damn thing to do with PPV sales. First of all, I don't even believe that the fight will happen. Bob Arum will pull a bait and switch on Martinez and all the gullible fools who think this fight will happen and Chavez will end up fighting Kelly Pavlik for a bogus title at 168 in October or November. However, if Chavez/Martinez does happen, it won't sell more than 300,000 on PPV and I am being generous with that number. Of course, we will never know for sure how many PPVs are sold because Arum won't allow HBO to release the numbers.
