Still, they are both pretty big stars at this stage considering their age, they are still extremely young. The ultimate fight is going to be Chavez jr. vs Canelo somewhere down the road
    No you are very wrong

    I'm from Mexico City

And Canelo is popular in Guadalajara, the majority of mexicans see him as a media creation of Televisa, they call him Mataviejitos (or Grandpacutioner in english) and that he always fights "costales" and that Televisa buys his opponents.

Just talk to some mexicans living in México, and check websites like Mediotiempo, Universal.com.mx, Record.com.mx, etc. = Canelos has many haters in México because like I said they see him a Media Creation, Chavez is more liked.

The most popular fighter in México is Juan Manuel Marquez he does the bigger ratings, and his fight at the new Arena Ciudad de México vs Fedchenko was a sell out.

When Canelo fought Cintron in his first fight in Mexico City, only 4k people showed up at the Plaza de Toros and they also had to give the tickets on promotion of 2 x 1 because people were not interested in the fight

Chavez always sell outs the Plazas were he fights in México and he gets the same tv ratings as Canelo.

But the rating monster in México is Juan Manuel Marquez... He's the TRUE KING!

Eh ... he got those ratings once for fighting Manny after this HUUUUUUGE media tour they did through the country. Prior to that JMM was one of the more neglected boxers.

Canelo is the most consistent draw getting roughly 35 million ever since Hatton. Chavez Jr fights on a smaller network so he gets 20 million viewers. Since Donaire was on that under card the fight got another 40 million in the Philippines.

45 million watched Barrera vs Marquez...

And Canelo does not 35 million consistently, his biggest rating fight was with Hatton and that's it.

Jackie Nava vs Ana Maria Torres got more viewers than any Canelo fight ever.

Also Canelo is the more hated by the mexican boxing fan in Mexico and by the boxing casual fan in México, they see him as a joke and a Televisa creation.

Top Rank should have put Chavez-Lee as under card of Pac-Bradley. This could have put more ppv's sell for the fight business wise. Even Brandon Rios against a good opponent.

Mike Jones was really boring and look what happen to the Arce fight. Yes, they are cheaper than Rios and Chavez but the extra ppv's sell would make up for it.

In other words, they see him accurately.

A Pacquiao vs Marquez fight will be massive really it will sell everything, the Azteca Stadium will be great for hosting the fight... I was at the Pacquiao vs Marquez press conference and it was nuts how many people went there, It was like the when the Pope Juan Pablo II came to México haha

And Marquez will get even more ratings among the casuals because there was a controversy here in México with the trunks of Marquez, he promoted "PRI" a political party in his trunks (prohibited propaganda when there were elections on sunday in Morelia), so people that didnt watched the fight vs Pacquiao end up knowing about it because of what happened in the Elections of Morelia.

PRI won the elections there, but because of what happened with the logo of El PRI in the trunks of Marquez, the Tribunal annulated the elections.

Marquez is the most popular mexican fighter right now and the people will want him to avenge what they saw as a robbery, so they will be behind Marquez... The fight will be massive.

And yes the Chavez vs Haugen fight got more than 130,000, I would have gone but I was just a little kid by that time a shame lol it would have been great to go there.
