I look at the match up between Chavez and Martinez and I just keep coming back to Martinez vs Margarito. I try to rationalize how Martinez has just changed since that fight as far as the weight, experience, the margarito hand wrap factor, but it doesn't change my opinion that the chavez fight can be a similar situation if one important factor plays a role. If you go back and really look at the fight between Martinez and Margo you notice that Martinez's offense and movement was as good then as it is now. He was using the angles, the hands down, the same combinations your used to seeing from Maravilla. You think about the factors that went into Margarito getting the TKO over Martinez that day and it just makes the Chavez fight more of a toss up. In the Margarito fight Martinez wasn't hurting him. Margaro was walking him down, getting caught clean on many occasions but never seemed fazed by Martinez's punches, movement or akward style. Now people might think that a major factor in that fight was that Margarito was possibly using illegal hand wraps, and it might be so I also take that into consideration. How that translates to a chavez, martinez match up is that Chavez's weight advantage over most middleweights has allowed him to overpower them and ultimately break them down so the fact that Martinez is a small middleweight doesn't make him immune to that possibility. Now the most important factor going in to this fight will be Chavez's chin. Can it hold up? He's gotten hit with some vicious shots and hasn't been remotely shaken, but I believe Martinez will be the hardest puncher he has ever faced, not to mention he will probably get tagged often. Ultimately I think that if Martinez doesn't get Chavez's respect early or faze him with clean shots then it might be Deja Vu for him.
Chavez vs Martinez = Martinez vs Margarito

Chavez is a body puncher, the movement, the stance, etc.
Also the new and improved "El Cashcow The Dinero de Vaca Super Beasto JCC Superstar Jr." has much better defense than Margarito
I love the end of this gif!! we will see Martinez like this on September 15

Margarito and Chavez have completely different styles. Margarito was a much better pressure fighter, he used long punches from the outside to close the distance and he was a lot busier. Chavez fights in spurts and doesn't throw punches until he's toe to toe.Comment

And Chavez has the better defense and is much stronger than Marg.Comment

And once JCC Superstar goes mexican fajador style like this, it will be good night for Martinez... but until that happens Martinez will be in the fight
