Comments Thread For: Povetkin Being Trained By Tszyu For Rahman Defense

WBA regular heavyweight champ Alexander Povetkin was far from his best against Marco Huck earlier this year. He was in fact out of shape but the only explanation offered was that he had underestimated his opponent. I contacted his manager, Vlad Hryunov, to see how his training camp is going, and I was advised that all-time boxing great Kostya Tszyu is now training Povetkin.

No sign of this fight being confirmed, not sure why Rahman has any currency left in the heavyweight game tbh. The Lewis KO was a long time ago and other dudes are out there.

Frank Warren said this fight is on the card, and i haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Rahman is still relevant because the division isn't very good. Sad thing is, it wouldn't surprise me if Rahman beat Povetkin.

The WBA ordered Povetkin to fight Rahman back in February if the fight doesn't happen he will be stripped.

It's because the WBA is a disgusting sanctioning organization.

Rahman is no longer even ranked by BoxRec. His last decent win was over Monte Barrett in 2005.

he fought six tomato cans to get his ranking as high as WBA #3. when the WBA made their Chagaev\Povetkin fight for the interim title it jumped Rahman to the #1 spot & mandatory for the interim title fight winner. he would have had this fight over a year ago but was paid step aside money twice by sauerland($250000 for boswell & undisclosed for Huck). former champions always get generous rankings. he was active at the time regardless of level of competition. he has waited patiently for his shot but was paid handsomely. i think rahman beats povetkin if he is in shape. he has had plenty of time to get ready.
