Hamed vs Calvo, why Hamed quit Boxing?

I just haven't seen anything from Hamed that suggests to me he would last 12 rounds against any version of Pacquiao.

I don't see how Pacquaio would step up from Flyweight, Super bantam to stop Hamed. He could put him down but I don't think he could stop him. His head cleared too quick.

If an early version of Pacquaio stood there and traded shots with Hamed I don't think Pac would be able to handle the power. I just don't.

Like I said before, Barrera had the perfect gameplan. Marquez's style would have also been a bad matchup for Hamed but Pacquaio in the late nineties would have been stopped IMO.

Hamed had huge power, the biggest punching feather ever maybe, and an iron chin.

Pacquiao loved going toe to to toe back then, he would not have used Barrera tactics.

Would have been a great fight, and it would not have gone the distance.


The Weebler II, made a good point about how Hamed had hand problems due to his power.

He noticibly took the power of in the Calvo fight and was roundly booed for it.

Maybe he knew that is how all his fights would be.

Calzaghe had to take the power of too because of his hands, but he made that decision long before he became a big star.

Some fighters make a career of that.

I think I recall that Hamed took a long time making up his mind to continue fighting before he fought Calvo. There was a lot of uncertainty as to whether he'd retire. And I also think that Calvo was an unbeaten fighter, with a 30-0 record....or maybe a 30-1. One or the other.
