In AMERICA the greatest Amateur Boxer is probably Mark Breland he had a record of 110-1 and his 1 loss was avenged. He won Gold in the 1982 World Championships and that was followed by Gold in the 1984 Olympic games as Well (the year the soviets boycotted!!). Breland is wilded considered the Greatest American Amateur Boxer ever. He has a decent pro Career too but not what some might have expected giving his Amateur Background.

I am not saying this out of bigotry or anything, but i have been on this forum for years now (on and off) and i must say, that the knowledge of most fans, even the top contributors, is extremely poor when it comes to Amateur boxing!

Why Mark Breland is included in any top 10 of greatest amateurs ever? Simply because he is the best American amateur probably? But isn't that unfair, i mean let's say that an American named X is the greatest Soccer or Rugby player for the US ever, does the rest of the world has to include him in every top 10 (worldwide status) simply because "Panx Americana" must be represented in every list there is, from politics to history and sports to medicine and philosophy? That's a sad way to see things, in my opinion at least! I remember once, i saw a special for the greatest and most influential football players that you call soccer, from Sports Illustrated and i remember number 1 ahead of legends such as Maradona, Best, Pele, Platini, Zidane etc was an American FEMALE player that i don't even remember her name............. that gave me the best laugh of my life i believe, even to this day i laugh when i think about it, no dignity man!

Oh well, an American magazine decided to name as the most influential player around the world in the sport of soccer....... an American woman....

As for Breland, not to sound disrespectful, but i believe he is not even top 20 if you consider some bright careers and people who achieved WAY more than Breland ever did as an amateur! I mean let's be realistic, the man did not even stay amateur for a long time, how can he be compared with people who spent 20 years as amateurs and won 50 times more amateur titles and battles than him, that's unfair man, not to say irrational...
