Everyone wants to rave on about freedom to do what they want. Which is quite obtuse. If anyone who has responded to this thread with the answer of freedom. Talk about simplistic. Do you really think that this is about freedom. Well guess what people do have the right to do what they like, but their decisions when they go bad do not simply stay within. I recall Goossen, Williams promoter say, he does not even know if Paul has health insurance. Well guess what all those whose response is "freedom" or grown men do what they want to do, since it is very likely Paul does not have health insurance who do you think is going to pay for his healthcare? Now Paul has made some money, but I highly doubt its enough to pay for a lifetime of care which is what he will need. So where does your freedom response fit into this part of Paul's new reality. Since Paul chose to ride his bike in a reckless manner then should society not take any responsibility for taking care of his medical bills or his kids?
Poeple's actions effect others no matter if we have free choice or not or whether we think we are grown men and we can do what we want. There is one thing no one wants to get near in discussing and that is responsibility. Yes, we can choose to do what we want to do, but should we not take into account our responsibilities to others before we exercise our freedom to do whatever the hell we want to? Should Paul have thought about his responsibility to his children before he decided to get on that bike in the condition he was in? Should he have taken into account his responsibility to his promoter, manager, fans? Or do our decisions exist in a vacuum?
I am just living in a pragmatic world. Either no one wants to admit that being a man means more than doing whatever the hell you want to do or no one wants to admit that being a man is about responsibility. And frankly seeing what happened to Williams and Corrales, what they did was irresponsible and not grown up at all. Hell Corrales family could not even afford to pay for his funeral and now his kids have no father.
I am sorry but you can say that a grown man does what he wants to because we live in a free country, but when **** goes wrong, society has to come to the rescue and pay for it all. So freedom is not free because someone always has to pick up the bill.
I just do not understand the limited amount of thinking that goes into some of these opinions. Like I said I am not kicking him while he is down, nor am I saying Paul should be more miserable, frankly I do not know where in my post I even suggest that.
