Is Manny Pacquiao the most overrated fighter of the past 25 years?

Some one posted this in one of the previous threads....Ive always thought about it but I have to agree. Most people add into how likeable a fighter is when considering their place among the greats, but really it has no creedance.

Of the previous p4p kings Mayweather(who never lost and is still active Manny got p4p by default), Roy Jones, and Pernell Whitaker none of them got the praise of Pacquiao and they were more dominant and illustrated more skill in the ring

Fighters who were undoubtedly the best of their time like Roy Jones and Pernell Whitaker didnt recieve half the hoopla Pacquaio does and both beat their closest rivals of their time. Both never lost a clear fight til their mid 30's and dominated their eras and people always have something to say about their style or competition. Jones and Floyd Mayweather beat more champions than Manny, and Whitaker proved he was the best of his era by fighting the best

I think its his fans that overrate him, but most hardcore fans and other people dont....some of his ardent fans assertions are a bit far fetched and overboard

Not at all. There's a lot of overrated fighters in that time frame or fighters who were overrated when they were active.

Manny Pacquaio is overrated vastly. Or atleast he was in 2009. It seems to has simmered now, a little.

But, he's also one of the greatest fighters of the last 25 years. No doubt about that.

Well hes beaten everyone put in front of him relatively easy for the last 7 years so why you dont think he should be rated highly for that is anyones guess.

I would agree floyds far more overated, for someone who dont fight.

he is one of the best for sure of the past 25 years....just not the sure fire best like his fans would make it seem...Eight titles in 8 weights is great but those last 3 werent impressive at all when you consider David Diaz was the worst lightweight title holder in recent history and both the welterweight and super welterweight titles were won at catchweights and two guys coming off horrific hidings...takes some of the luster off

                Interesting.

Why do you think Camacho is overrated?

No place in the HOF for him thus far. I rarely see anyone mention him.

                    Agreed.

But it seems that a lot of people have simmered down with that talk now anyway.

                    Except for the fan boys.
