How many p4p #1 fighters had Nelson beaten several years after losing to Pea, in the same weight class that he loss to Pea? Infact, how had Nelson proved his capability in that division at all?

And since when is Pernell Whitaker an old time fighter? The guy's era was the 90's for crying out loud.
Whitaker has beaten certified ATG's in or close to their prime.
Floyd Mayweather has arguably not even beat HOF'er in their prime.
If your backwards basis for Mayweather being greater than Whitaker is "He beat more Champions and won more Title fights" then there's a long list of fighters who you must also feel are greater than him.
Joe Calzaghe beat more HOF's than Whitaker according to your logic, he also had more title fights, more belts.
Is he greater? Obviously not.
It's not that simple.
Whitaker clearly has a better resume than Mayweather.

sweat pea better resume
floyd the better boxer
infact- i am no fl-omo, but i would be the first to show floyd the respect he is due for his incredible God-given boxing talent
damn shame pac and pbf didnt fight in 2009- it would have been the greatest fight in boxing history
i think pac is shot now- his fight with rhino headbutter will tell

But, it's one weight class. It's nothing.
Nelson was in his prime and he's an ATG. It's obviously a great win.
Marquez is an ATG, a good win for Mayweather IMO. But obviously he's not at an ideal weight and not in his prime either.
But, I do personally consider that a good win. After what happened with Pacquaio.
But, it's still obviously not as good as beating Nelson in his prime.

While Marquez, started out his career @ Featherweight just like Nelson, but moved all the way up to Welterweight (2 division jumps) and actually DEFEATED the seemingly unstoppable #1 p4p fighter in the sport at the age of 38, 2 years removed from getting lopsidedly throttled by Floyd.
But somehow, Nelson ranks as a better win for pea, than Marquez for May. Even though Marquez is proven in the division he was defeated in, while Nelson is not.
Makes absolutely no sense.
