He will do fine at 147. Cotto probably had 15 pounds on him on fight night and he was fighting cottos fight and going to the ropes on purpose. Eventually he will find someone too big if he stays here or keeps going up. I mean he just took the fight at 154 without even bothering to put on more weight. He will have to put on weight purposefully like Marquez and Hopkins did when they moved up if he wants to stay long term at 154+True that. Although someone pointed out that he reminds them of the mid-thirties James Toney, only more athletic. If he can continue to master fighting off the ropes--and can take the few shots that are going to be his cracking his chin going forward--perhaps he can fight to 37 without seeing a loss. I doubt it though.Comment

Sure.
Doesn't mean it shouldn't be done when it comes to assessing a fighter's place in history.
Does these flomos no harm to get a little perspective either, in boxing when and at what weight you beat a fighter is of utmost importance, the name alone is far from everything.Last edited by Weebler I; 05-08-2012, 07:56 PM.Comment

Newsflash poochiaotard
MAB and Morales were prime at 122
DLH at 147 first time in 10 years?
Hatton prime in his last fight?
Cotto prime at 145 and best weight?
Margo prime and best weight at 150?
Bradley at 147?
Pac has beat JMM and Clottey at their high points and best weights. Thats it.Comment

Unfortunately, Cotto didn't want to fight Mayweather in '05 because his team said he wasn't ready. It's not Mayweather's fault Cotto wasn't anxious to get that fight [Arum certainly wasn't trying to either, or ever so long Cotto was with tr].
Look at the Hatton deal, same thing, in '06 he was saying he wasn't ready then in '07, he took the opportunity to fight Mayweather when it was there. Same thing with Mosley and his toothache in '06....Comment

I mentioned that. He looks more and more like James with every fight, because James, though he had technically sound footwork, didn't have overly quick feet. Floyd fights just like him, countering off the ropes, spinning and rolling on a dime, re-adjusting, but he doesn't get his entire body out of the way like he used to.Comment

You know what's funny? I remember having a conversation with you about Mayweather getting old ages ago.I mentioned that. He looks more and more like James with every fight, because James, though he had technically sound footwork, didn't have overly quick feet. Floyd fights just like him, countering off the ropes, spinning and rolling on a dime, re-adjusting, but he doesn't get his entire body out of the way like he used to.Comment

I have a good memory. I rememer the conversation quite well. We were talking about seeing him go down hill a bit around the Hatton/Oscar fight in terms of physical prime.
I also remember after the JMM fight, we had a conversation about him not pulling the trigger a few times, and i saw that again against Cotto. There were a few occassions where a younger Floyd would have unloaded or thrown in certain situations and he just didn't.
The thing is (and i said this yesterday) Roger, and Floyd especially they know he's not as quick with his reflexes and feet as he once was. Floyd recognises it.....and that's important, because i don't think Roy ever did.Comment
