Serious though? You think that Mayweather couldnt of made things very boring and shut Cotto off for most of the fight?I hate when people say this. Mayweather is not invincible, he's just a really great prizefighter. He said himself that it was the toughest fight of his career. Don't undermine Cotto's effort by suggesting that Floyd was in his comfort zone the entire night. He deserved the win but he did box him for periods of the fight and still managed to lose rounds.
I didnt say it was easy, he made it very hard for himself, not taking anything away from cotto...Comment

I think that Cotto would've eventually got to him regardless of what strategy he employed. Maybe if he had boxed for 12 rounds he could've got a decision befitting the points total that he got last night.Comment

The Decision Last night was 100% Spot on, anyone that thinks it wasn't clearly doesn't understand the scoring system of boxing. 3 Professional Judges aren't wrong when they have very similar scores, unless of course, it's a whole conspiracy and Mayweather paid them all.Comment

It was a close round but from what I remember, he had him up against the ropes for most of the second half of the round. I'm pretty sure Floyd outlanded him in the round but Cotto's shots were more powerful and intense.Last edited by fvanesbeck; 05-06-2012, 07:34 PM.Comment

WTH. 5 rounds to Cotto? Cotto winning? What juice are kids drinking these days? Grandad's whiskey?
This was not a close fight. Mayweather did more damage in the vast majority of rounds. I had it 118-110 Mayweather. It was easy to score.
For context I scored Pacquiao Marquez 3: 116-112 Pacquiao.
People just don't seem to know when punches land, how hard they land, and how often they land. Cotto busted Floyd up in rounds 6,8 but in all the other rounds Mayweather was either dealing more damage or [in a couple of close ones e.g. round 7] being the aggressor as Cotto sat back.
I'm slowly realizing the vast majority of boxing fans are pretty ignorant about what is transpiring in front of them, and just see the bluster and none of the finesse.Comment

Sure, but when you have other Analysts backing it up, and alot of other boxing hardcores agreeing with it, usually it's right. If you start watching the fight as a Floyd hater, or a pacquiao fan you'll see differently, when I first watched the Pacquiao vs Marquez 3 fight, I had it 116-112 for Marquez, I re-watched it a week later, and had it 115-113 for Pacquiao the emotion of the fight makes your preception change, go watch the fight again, mayweather landed the harder punches, most of cottos punches were a few jabs and a few shots against the ropes.Comment

I'm not saying Mayweather didn't win the fight, I'm just saying it was a lot closer than people thought. I watched it on Boxnation, and as of the end of the second round, the commentators had concluded that Cotto didn't really stand a chance. They proceeded to spend the next 10 rounds talking about how amazing Mayweather was, sometimes talking about how great he was at the same time as Cotto was landing on Mayweather, neglecting to mention that he'd just been hit. I scored it 117-114 for Floyd when I watched it live, then I watched it today with the volume down and had it 116-115 Mayweather. The better man won on the night, but it was a close fight.Sure, but when you have other Analysts backing it up, and alot of other boxing hardcores agreeing with it, usually it's right.
