  • Mayweather won a wide and comfortable UD. Still looked the same as the Mosley/Ortiz fights. And for all the clowns saying "Floyd gets hit by a straight left, which is what Pac does"......are we all of a sudden forgetting that Pac gets hit with the right hand and left uppercut all the time as well????

God some people are ******. People get more ****** on here after Floyd fights than any other time. People think it was close because Cotto landed his jab, got Floyd on the ropes, and gave him a bloody nose.

I guess we should forget Floyd out landing him, hitting at will with those right hands and left uppercuts, and countering off the ropes all night.

Vernon definately and I say he would have lost to Ricardo 8 outta 10 times in their primes. He just didn't match up well with Ricardo but on paper you would've thought Vernon would destroy him. I see your point and agree 100%. Another example in my opinion is Kelly Pavlik vs. Jermaine Taylor, just not as good of an example.

The one round where cotto chose to box backing up, he won. Not indicative of mayweather choosing a fan friendly style, rather, he's a 35 year old fighter. He backed straigh up on numerous occasions with his hands down. Against a faster footed fighter he'd have had real problems. Cotto is not a great fighter anymore, but he gave floyd a very good fight. Pretty certain he broke floyd's nose. Speaks volumes of mayweather. Pacquiao is also a diminished fighter. I think sergio would beat either decisively at 154. Now or nver for floyd v. Pacquiao.

Probably never. By the time Floyd is out and the fight is made, Floyd would be 36 or possibly almost 37. Pac may have lost to Bradley as well.

I think Floyd is just as surprised as well that he got tagged. That's why his hands were probably down. Usually his reflex would avoid some of those shots. But a few landed flush and quite well. Father Time is a b1tch.
Like I said in the master thread, this may be possibly the last great fight (or next to last) in Floyd's career.

BTW, that 151 lb was strategic. If Floyd felt comfortable, he would not have given those few lbs. I just don't think Floyd will beat Martinez at 155 (catchweight) or above.

Round 5, yes Cotto had Floyd on the ropes, but he got busted up by Floyd's counters while he had there, and Floyd ended up out landing by a significant margin.

One thing is for sure, though Victor Ortiz was a good fight against the #2 WW and he's a good fighter, Miguel Cotto was a tougher test at 154 than Ortiz at 147 was.
Victor Ortiz is no where near the same league as Miguel.

            • This fight proved that Cotto is a very good boxer, but not a superstar-level boxer. I think it's too late for him to reach that next level (Floyd/Pacquiao level). I dont think he should retire just yet, but it's unfortunate for him.

You could flip the coin and say Pac had Cotto running for dear life, neither fight would make for a good example. Mayweather would win a close fight against Pac. He's the best fighter I've ever seen since SRL.
I still think the Marquez Floyd fought would give Pacquiao problems. It's just Marquez and his style. He knows Manny. Pacquiao will never dominate JMM.

                • lol at people trying to use this fight as a measuring stick to a Pacquiao fight

your talking about two completely different styles, nothing alike, you have Cotto who is Rugged and Strong and is big and strong enough to push Mayweather around, get him against the ropes and go to work inside

Uh...Pacquiao can't fight inside first of all, he doesn't try to get inside, Pacquiao uses speed and space to get his punches off

Mayweather gets in a much tougher fight than expected, loses 4 rounds and gets a bloody nose. Plus, he got hit with the left over and over again, and whos the best at left hands?

Feel the triangle burn theories floyd fans, because it's exactly what you did with marquez and pac.
Pacquiao also got his right eardrum broken by Cotto's left hook and Floyd fought a version of Cotto with a better trainer who was 10 pounds heavier.
