Calzaghe was the biggest and highest earning fight of the deal. Hopkins rejected his highest ever purse to face Joe Calzaghe. Its a simple fact which none of your excuses can refute.

Getting an Oscar fight 3-4 years later does not negate the original duck!

And then actually fighting him and arguable beating him!

Here's the best analysis I've read on the fight, props to my boy #1Assassin:

clean effective punching - all hopkins
      defense - all hopkins
ring generalship - hopkins early, even mid rounds, calzaghe late
effective aggression - nobody, hopkins wasnt aggressive and calzaghe wasnt effective.

      hopkins won the fight.

calzaghe did put him on the ropes a bit in the mid rounds and alot late in the fight which is good ring generalship but thats it. he was missing damn near everything he threw which not only scores him no points but scores hopkins points in the defense category. when joe did land it wasnt clean and did no real damage. hopkins on the other hand walked calzaghe into short counters and hurt him on 3-4 diffrent occassions.

very clean effective work from hopkins in addition to the masterful defense. in many spots he showed superior ring generalship also turning and controling calzaghe, especially early.

neither fighter was aggressive in an effective way, hopkins was very defensive and calzaghes work was ass. joe came on strong late when old man hopkins slowed down from the pressure joe was applying (that ring generalship) but calzaghe couldnt take him out like he had to, he was too far behind to win (or should have been).

the ppl who scored it for calzaghe either scored with their ears or they dont know the diffrence from a missed punch and a landed punch. probably dont give no credit to defense either like most fake fans.

hopkins won on clean effective punches, damage and defense.

What does this have to do with Hopkins rejecting a career high purse to fight Joe in 02?

He wasn't fighting Calzaghe next. Intimating that he had to wait three years to get Oscar doesn't negate the fact that he would have had to wait at least two to get Calzaghe. And he made $12m more.

Again, what stopped him fighting them both? Did someone give him an ultimatum? Strange excuses.

He would have had to stay with Don King longer, which he didn't want to.

Oh just like Bradley didn't want to stay with Shaw. Poor babies. This is the new "pass" given to certain fighters that duck their career high purses.

Umm right. Anyway, a lot of fighters have had issues with Don King and Hopkins was one of them. He didn't want to extend his contract with King because he didn't feel it paid enough. End of story.

You'll notice how these kind of appeals to the emotional state of the fighter are only applicable to certain fighters with IMDAZED.

"He felt he was worth more"
"He didn't feeeeel like signing with King again"

How does this excuse ducking a big fight and your biggest purse to fight bums for smaller purses again? Oh yeah, it doesn't.

Would these excuses apply if the shoe was on the other foot? Oh hell no

Well if it was a fight with Calzaghe you'd make sense. It was a TV contract with Showtime. And it would've extended his promotional contract with King.
