The only reason Wlad was never lineal champion was because Vitali was #1 and they didn't fight for obvious reason.

Barrett, Byrd x2, Schulz, Mercer, McCline, Peter x2, Austin, Brewster, Ibragimov, Thompson, Rahman, Chagaev, Haye, Brock and Chambers.

You don't prove you're the better fighter by beating common opponents (handing Purrity his 15th loss shouldn't impress anyone). That can be chalked up to styles.

You prove you're the better fighter by accomplishing the things a better fighter would accomplish. Vitali took too many soft opponents. Wlad had the better competition. He also has the better wins. He has accomplished way more than Vitali has, and he's got longer to go.

Your only arguement is Vitali's body was too fragile for him to achieve that, and you speculate that he could have otherwise.

Well Wlad PROVED that he could. History will reflect that

Lol, at the soft competition you speak of Vitali has taken.

You need to do a little history work before saying that garbage. Since his comeback, Vitali has faced mostly RING top ten guys and was the man before retiring while Wlad was getting knocked out twice. His opponents records combined is 295-12 since his comeback. His record vs. them is 9-0 (6 ko's) I challenge you to find another fighter who's opponents records were that good over the last 9 fights.

Oh, and Vitali never losing to another fighter on the cards is testiment to the style matchup thing you seem to be hung up on as an excuse to why Wlad was knocked out by Sanders and Purrity. No style trumps his apparently. Not even the all time great Lennox Lewis'.

Head to head I would pick Vit over Wlad. Its a styles thing though and doesn't mean Vitaly is the better fighter, and there is certainly no way he is greater.

          Wlad's better than Vitali IMO.

He's a better fighter and is certainly the greater fighter.

Agreed. Better arsenal (when he chooses to use it) and a better resume equals the greater fighter.

295-12 against whom, and when? Numbers don't impress me, who were these guys fighting? When did they fight them? Is there anyone good on their records?

I guess Briggs has a robbery win against an ancient Foreman 13 years ago.

              What else?

Don't get me wrong, Vitali deserves credit for his recent run, he's been fighting the best he could. But so has Wlad, and for longer.

Yes because he has fought plenty of great opponents.

He fought one, who no matter what you say, tore up his face and beat him by TKO, and was beginning to take control of the fight anyway.

I'm not saying there's a style that could obviously beat his, although I believe they exist, what I'm saying is that you can't really make that statement given his competition.
